Digital Playground (Youth Online)

October 12, 2020 @ 5:00 pm - October 16, 2020 @ 6:00 pm

Liotchev – Weekdays, Oct 12 – Oct 16, 5-6pm

Grades 3-8

Using a smartphone, tablet or digital camera, we’ll take photographs and then use our wild imaginations to transform our photos into fantastic artworks! We’ll learn the fundamental skills of digital photography, such as composition, lighting, exposure, and focusing. Then, using a free online photo editing program, we’ll explore how to edit and transform our photos using techniques like distortion, cropping, cutting and pasting, altering colors and more. We’ll combine multiple photos together to make dreamy and funny compositions, and can even exchange photos with each other so we have an even greater array of images to play with!

Materials: smartphone, tablet or digital camera, laptop or computer capable of basic photo editing, ability to access Google Drive or similar file sharing service

About the instructor: Ivan Liotchev is an artist based in Durham, North Carolina and London, UK. He earned his MFA from the Slade School of Fine Arts, UCL, London (2011) and BFA from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston (2004). Splitting his practice between painting and social-engagement, in 2010 he founded the International Collaborative Drawing Project (ICDP), a participatory initiative which uses drawing as a starting point for cooperative creation. Originating within a working-class community in South London, UK, the project now works with diverse worldwide communities ranging from Hopi Native Americans to Geneva bankers, developing drawing events, exhibitions, residencies, public art and multi-media explorations.
