This workshop is designed for artists who are eager to paint expressively and loosely using watercolor with confidence. Students will be exploring the possibilities and beauty of creating dynamic works of art and gain mastery in using the medium freely and spontaneously. Lyudmila will introduce the secrets of her unique expressive style and help students develop their own in their effort to show mood, movement, and emotion in their work. The focus will be on different techniques, basic principles of good composition, values, color palette and focal point as the foundation of creating powerful work.

Writing with the Seasons with Stacey Hayes

Join us for a soulful and seasonal writing journey. Creative and contemplative practices will encourage us to slow down as we attune to our inner and outer landscapes. Each class will include guided explorations inspired by nature writing, mindfulness, the expressive arts, and journaling. We will explore a variety of written forms such as poetry, micro essays, and pairing imagery with words. However, the focus is less on craft and more on writing for self-expression and self-care using seasonal rhythms as our guide. We will find words that soothe, celebrate, and inspire. In this compassionate space, we will cultivate writing as a practice that nourishes our spirits and deepens our kinship with the natural world. This is a three-part series, and you may register for one, two, or all three classes. No writing experience is necessary. Just bring your sense of wonder, favorite pen, and a journal or notebook. Supplemental art supplies will be provided.
Pastels – Bringing Landscapes to Life with Jim Hallenbeck

Create a landscape painting with soft pastels! We’ll start with a simple pencil drawing followed by a watercolor underpainting to set-up shapes and dimensions. From there we will begin using soft pastels working from a focal point out, dark to light to create the mood and capture the colors of the landscape. Students will learn techniques for blending pastels, layering pastels, and how to apply charcoal to soften edges and push areas into the background. For beginner to intermediate pastel painters.
Recommended Supplies:
- Soft pastels – any brand; (instructor uses Unison and NuPastel)
- UArt Paper Board – 9’x12″ and / or 12″ x 16″: (instructor uses 500 grit)
- Vine charcoal sticks
- Watercolor (for underpainting) – Payne’s Grey, Van Dyck Brown, & Burnt Sienna (purple is optional but fun)
- Watercolor brush and jar / container to hold water
- Pencil (use for a quick drawing of shapes)
Income Tax Workshop for Artists & Creatives with Janet Ecklebarger

In this 2 hour workshop, Janet will demystify the income tax filing process for artists and creatives. We will discuss the process of identifying and accounting for the many diverse income streams, as well as the business related expenses that comprise the livelihoods of many arts practitioners. Tax legislation is always changing and we will address how those changes affect the various situations for artists and other self employed individuals. In addition to sharing insights on tax-filing best practices for artists, curators, and creative producers, we will also address questions pertinent to individual circumstances.
Beginning Watercolor Course with Ryann Carey

Intro to Indigo and Shibori Dyeing with Gaia’s Magical Goods

In this hands-on workshop, you will learn the process of dyeing fabric using natural indigo plant dye and Japanese Shibori tie-dye techniques. In the first section, you will learn about the history and qualities of natural indigo dyeing. A brief snack and beverage break is included, so please bring what you need for this time. During the second section of the day, you will get your hands blue’d in the indigo vat folding and dying your own Shibori design.
Class size is limited to 10 so that each participant will have the time to participate in the dyeing process. All materials will be provided and no previous experience is necessary, as a pre-made Indigo vat will be provided for workshop use. All participants will leave the workshop with two of their own designed and hand-dyed bandanas, a custom printout filled with resources to make your own Indigo vat at home and Japanese Indigo seeds to help spread the blue far and wide.
Beginning Encaustic Painting with Mary Lamb

In Beginning Encaustic Painting you’ll learn the origin of creating work from wax. You’ll learn about the nature of this medium, the materials, and different effects that are possible. The class will use ready-made encaustic paints and various tools to create an original work of art. All materials will be provided. You don’t need any previous experience to work in encaustics; they are endlessly variable and are as easy or difficult as you want them to be.
AORTIA (Art of Relaxation with Tangle-Inspired Art) with Kathy Burnside

In this class, you will be guided through the relaxing and meditative experience of drawing motifs using tangle-inspired techniques. You will learn fundamental patterns using dots, lines, curves and simple shapes, then create more complex designs combining these techniques. Throughout the workshop, you will take moments for deep breathing and mindfulness techniques and be encouraged to focus on the present moment and the sensory experience of drawing. Each participant will leave the workshop with a framed artwork.

This is an independent working studio. Come work while getting help from local Eno Arts Mill artist, Kelly Oakes. She will offer guidance to advance your work to the next level through individual critiques and group demos. This isn’t for beginners but perfect for novices as well as artists who want to work in a supportive group environment. All painting mediums welcomed (only gamesol allowed for oils/solvents).
Acrylic and Oil Painting (Spring 2025 Session 1) with Kelly Oakes

This class is open to all. Kelly will teach the class through demonstrations, short lectures, and individual counsel. Beginners will paint a simple still life using the color wheel to mix paints. More advanced painters can bring their own reference photos (an iPad is highly recommended) and be guided with tips of the trade help you create your best painting.

Tin Can Collage with Thomas W. Graham

In this class you will create a collage out of scrap tin and/or aluminum! You’ll learn how to safely disassemble and cut tin cans and secure the pieces to create an 8”x10” collage. Most materials will be provided, other than work gloves. If you have a hammer, needle-nose pliers, and tin snips you prefer, bring them too! Students are welcome to bring in tin or aluminum to use if they wish. Moderate hand strength is required. All skill levels are welcome.
Brilliant Birds in Watercolor Workshop with Lyudmila Tomova Clark

Learn how to paint vibrant and expressive birds in watercolor. Explore different techniques in painting different types of birds and focus on color palette, values, interpreting light and shadow. Discover how to use bold gestures and basic principles in painting to express mood and movement in your works. Students will learn how to create focus in their painting to captivate the viewer and keep their work fresh and spontaneous. Instructor will give two 30 min quick demos in the beginning of the class and after lunch going over the fundamentals and main topic. Students usually leave with 2 or even 3 finished paintings.
