Vitamin O: Laura Fenn

“Teachers are so often expected to do more and more. This is something teachers choose,” says Chapel Hill resident Laura Fenn about the Walking Classroom program she developed. Fourth and fifth-grade students listen to curriculum aligned podcasts as they exercise. A teacher in Michigan snowshoes with her kids; in Hawaii, students walk around the base of volcanoes. Students walked a figure 8 inside a Denver school when it was -19° outside. “Teachers are amazing – their ingenuity is remarkable.” The program is now in 800+ classrooms. “It brings me the greatest joy that we are helping teachers,” Fenn said.
