Abby Hylton, 25, is the Outreach Coordinator at the Youth Community Project. YCP creates opportunities for youth to find, join or create activities they care about. Through that group, Hylton also founded Fluid Revolutions, a creative and athletic activity group held in a queer and trans-specific environment where participants have space to talk about issues that affect their lives. This is then translated into an aerial performance open to the public. Abigail Stern, 17, is a member of Fluid Revolutions. She said, “I have never loved any physical activity as much as I love aerials…the inclusive and non-competitive learning environment …is really wonderful and adds to the experience.” Hylton came to Orange County from Dublin, Ireland to attend UNC; Stern moved here at age 8. She plans to go away to college to experience something new. Hylton noted that the group has received outstanding and encouraging support from the Orange County community and feels “it would be impossible to do this in other places.”
