Sashiko Handstitching | July 15

Learn the history and practice of sashiko hand-stitching, a technique born of Boro style mending which has become a widely appreciated art form. Sashiko has found its way into modern culture through the act of visible mending. Students of this workshop will create several samples that they will be able to take home and finish with the kits they receive in class. Their finished samples can be mounted in embroidery hoops or pieced together as they traditionally would have been during Boro mending. Students will learn the basics of sashiko, from material selection, simple pattern planning, and stitching techniques. The ArtsCenter is excited to introduce new instructor Diana James, the owner of NoCo Handcraft, who has been teaching textile arts in Chapel Hill and Durham for many years.

You may request a full refund up to 5 business days prior to the start date of your course. You may request a transfer of your enrollment up to 5 business days prior to the start date of your course. We do not process requested refunds or transfers within 5 business days of the start of a class, nor after the class has begun.
