Hanes Visiting Artist Lecture Series: Noah Fischer

March 6, 2018 @ 6:00 pm

Brooklyn-based artist Noah Fischer has fused his studio art practice with movements for social and economic justice, and the work can be found in the gap between the museum and the streets. Often producing artworks and creative campaigns from within a group or network, Fischer’s 2011 manifesto sparked the collective Occupy Museums, which fights inequity propagated by cultural institutions. As a core member of Gulf Labor/G.U.L.F., Fischer also works on museums and labor. The performativity of Fischer’s direct action practice is inspired by a long-term theatrical collaboration with Berlin-based andcompany&Co with whom he has developed a number of touring productions. His solo and collaborative work has been widely seen (and not always by invitation) at MoMA, Guggenheim, Brooklyn Museum, ZKM and Zamek Ujazdowski and in the 56th Venice, 2 Athens, and 7th Berlin Biennales and 2017 Whitney Biennials.
