Figure drawing and painting from a live model is a practice with an emphasis on learning the shape and movement of the human form. The essence of figure drawing is to attempt to capture life as it really is, or at least as it appears to the artist.
The objective is for the student to be able to draw (or paint) the human figure in an objectively accurate manner, be able to analyze underlying structure and proportions of male and female human figures, be able to draw the human figure in an expressive manner, with desired mood or emotional nuance, be self-confident in his/her ability to draw the human figure.
