The 4th COSMIC RAYS FILM FESTIVAL will beam into Chapel Hill, North Carolina from
Thursday, March 31st to Saturday, April 2nd, 2022 to present 4 programs of screenings and
live audiovisual performances that explore the artistic possibilities of film and video.
Co-directed by filmmakers Sabine Gruffat and Bill Brown, Cosmic Rays is an annual
showcase of short films by some of today’s most exciting filmmakers and artists who break the
norms of traditional forms of filmmaking.
Cosmic Rays is excited to bring cinema art from around the world to the Triangle, as well as to
celebrate experimental filmmakers with North Carolina connections including Laura
Asherman, George Jenne, Anna Kipervaser, Georg Koszulinski, Lisa McCarty, Stella Rosen,
Shannon Silva, Charlotte Taylor, Charles Watson, and John Winn.
In addition to over 40 short films and live audiovisual performances, Cosmic Rays is excited to
announce COSMIC RAYS DIGITAL, a new programming initiative made possible by a Media
Arts Grant from the National Endowment for the Arts.
The inaugural edition of COSMIC RAYS DIGITAL, titled EVERYWARE, is a curated exhibition of
Virtual Reality, Augmented Reality, and interactive digital artworks that are now on display at
Peel Gallery in Carrboro, NC through April 2nd, 2022.
Everyone is warmly invited to attend:
A FREE AFTER PARTY following the last screening on Friday, April 1st, 2022 at Fatwood
Studio in Chapel Hill featuring a performance by Durham’s own Judge Schreber and Her
Cosmic Band (Emma Dunlap-Grube, Libby Rodenbough, Evan Morgan, Justin Morris, and
Oliver Child-Lanning ), and
A FREE CLOSING RECEPTION from 6PM – 9PM on Saturday, April 2nd, 2022 at Peel Gallery
in Carrboro featuring AV performances by Durham’s Governance (Rebecca Uliasz + Quran
Karriem) and Portland-based digital magician Brent Coughenour.
A FESTIVAL PASS is available for a suggested donation of $5 – $20 at
www.cosmicraysfilmfest.com. All proceeds from ticket sales will go to pay the participating
filmmakers.
