Autumn is Christian Hirni’s favorite season. The NC Forest Ranger for Orange and Durham Counties says, “There is nothing more beautiful than a hardwood forest in the fall.” He loves his job. “I don’t do the same thing every day and I am rarely doing the same thing in the afternoon that I was doing in the morning.” Wild land fire suppression is a ranger’s primary directive; they also help private and public land owners manage their forests, whether large or as small as a single tree. Hirni went to college in Colorado and moved here two and a half years ago. He and his family love living in Orange County. It is a great community, with great schools and plenty of opportunities for recreation – these are the priorities for Hirni, his wife, and their two daughters.
