THE I REMEMBER PROJECT
The I Remember Project is a Cassilhaus residency in Chapel Hill during October 2021 that will result in production of a participatory multi-generational community public art work.
Division is strong in our country and photographs have the power to connect as well as to divide. With the help of our community, using donations of photographic negatives and slides, visual artist Elizabeth Stone will weave and sew together personal narratives from multiple generations into a large sculptural art piece.
This collaborative record of the community’s identity will be created with the artist at scheduled “sewing bees” encouraging participants to pause and reconsider the many perspectives of a shared experience, sparked by family photographs.
The Orange County Arts Commission will serve as a drop-off site for negatives and can accept donation during office hours: Tuesday-Friday, 12-5pm.
For more information or to donate materials directly to the artist, contact Elizabeth Stone at 406.544.5490 or elizabeth@elizabethstone.com.
Inspiration came from the artist’s completed artwork, Ecdysis.
