OCAC Announced 2019/20 Arts Grants Recipients


The Orange County Arts Commission (OCAC) is pleased to announce recipients of the 2019-20 Grassroots Arts Program and Artist Project Grants. The OCAC awarded forty-three grants to sixteen artists, fifteen nonprofit organizations, and twelve schools, totaling $60,503.

2019-20 Grassroots Art Program Grant Recipients

  • Ackland Art Museum: Two Art & public artist programs by artist collective Intergalactic Soul
  • Carrboro Elementary School: Cultural Arts Programming
  • Cedar Ridge High School for Orange County Public Schools: Hip Hop and Jazz Ensemble The Beast Performance at Cultural Explosion
  • Cedar Ridge High School: Darkroom project
  • Chapel Hill Philharmonia: Annual Children’s Free Concert
  • Chapel Hill-Carrboro Public Schools Foundation: For Kids by Kids, Mariposa book project; Chapel Hill High School Hip Hop Team; Scroggs Elementary School Community Mural Project
  • Chelsea Theater: Operating support
  • CW Stanford Drama Club: Drama Club Director funding
  • East Chapel Hill High School Visual Arts: Artist in Residence: Delores Hayes and Raku Firing at Liberty Arts Studio
  • Ephesus Road Elementary School PTA: Cultural Arts Programming
  • Estes Hills Elementary School PTA: Cultural Arts Programming
  • Guy B Phillips Middle School PTSA: Cultural Arts Programming
  • Hillsborough Arts Council: Last Fridays Art Walk; Salary support; Teaching artists and performers for 2019 Solstice Lantern Walk
  • McDougle Elementary School PTA: Cultural Arts Programming
  • Musical Empowerment: Operations support
  • New Hope Elementary School for Orange County Schools: Artist-in-Residence Program in Title 1 Schools
  • North Carolina Arts in Action: NCAIA at Rashkis Elementary School
  • Orange County Artists Guild: 2019 Studio Tour advertising outreach
  • Puppet Show Incorporated: Fabled Puppet Productions
  • The Village Band of Chapel Hill and Carrboro: Salary support
  • Playmakers Repertory Company: 2019-2020 PlayMakers Mobile Theatre Program
  • Voices, the Chapel Hill Chorus: Salary support for rehearsal and concert accompanist

  • Sol Ramirez: 123 Puppetry Spring 2020 Production
  • Marcela Slade: Funds for material to produce new sladesign collection

OCAC Arts Grants are annually funded by the North Carolina Arts Council, a department of the North Carolina Department of Natural and Cultural Resources, and the Orange County Board of County Commissioners.
