Wilmington On Fire – Film Screening & Conversation with Director C. Everett

September 18, 2019 @ 6:30 pm - 9:00 pm

Wilmington on Fire is an award-winning documentary directed by Christopher Everett that chronicles the Wilmington Massacre of 1898, considered one of the only successful examples of a violent overthrow of an existing government and left countless numbers of African Americans dead and exiled from the city. This event was the springboard for the white supremacy movement and Jim Crow segregation throughout North Carolina and the American South. Join us for this film screening followed by a moderated conversation with Director/Producer Christopher Everett. This event is sponsored by the student learning initiative Reckoning: Race, Memory, and Re-Imagining the Public University through the College of Arts & Sciences at UNC-Chapel Hill.
