“The Talk” is a powerful one-man theatrical performance born of a painful conversation Sonny had to have with his son to prepare him to face a world that often condones and enacts violence against bodies like his. Sonny draws on the voices of ancestors, elders, youth and intellectuals to engage in the difficult conversations that parents of color must have with their children as they prepare them to survive and thrive in America. This eclectic performance is funny, heartbreaking, sobering and exhilarating, as Sonny humanizes the often racialized politics of issues like “stop and frisk,” “zero tolerance” policies, and the “School to Prison Pipeline.”
