The Franklin Street Comedy Festival

The PIT Chapel Hill is proud to present the very first Franklin St. Comedy Festival!

3 sketch groups, 25 improv groups and 50+ comedians join us for this inaugural event. This festival is focused on bringing together the very best of North Carolina comedy with local, regional and national comedians.

This year’s headliner is JUDAH FRIEDLANDER (30 Rock)! Last year, Judah Friedlander’s critically acclaimed 84 minute stand-up performance film America Is the Greatest Country In the United States (Netflix, 2017) was named best comedy special of the year by many critics, comics, and audiences. This year in 2019, Judah is on tour with new material with his Future President tour. Hilarious, profound satire with endless one liners & seemless crowd work – his Future President stand-up show is American satire at its most creative, incisive, and funny. Judah satirizes American Exceptionalism, the systemic power structures that control America, and how America deals with all of its human rights issues.

In Judah’s uproariously engaging and unpredictable show, he will show you why he should be the future President of the United States, and will invite you to ask him questions about his Presidential platform. With Judah’s amazing and unique crowd work, no two shows are the same.

The festival also features some of North Carolina’s best stand-up comedians such as Brett Williams, Brent Blakeney, James Hodge and Jeremy Alder.

Improv teams include the legendary Transactors, Danny Canoe and the all-female group Land Mermaids.

We are also hosting out of town groups such as Now Are The Foxes (Charlotte) and Trash Bang (Richmond, VA). Also special guest L.E. Zarling returns for her solo improv performance and her free workshop for trans and non-binary people.

The PIT Chapel Hill is a comedy theater and school located in the heart of Downtown Chapel Hill. It is the newest location of the PIT comedy theaters, started in New York eighteen years ago. The PIT specializes in improv, stand-up, sketch and is an open venue for all performing arts.
