Music on the Porch: Jennifer Curtis & Melodic Refuge Orchestra

September 13, 2018 @ 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm

Free

Join us on the lawn as we kick off another season of Music on the Porch! Our first fall concert features world-renowned local violinist and composer Jennifer Curtis. An educator with a focus on music as humanitarian aid, Curtis has performed with musical shaman of the Andes, improvised for live radio from the Amazon jungle, and collaborated with Kurdish refugees in Turkey. The New York Times has called her “an artist of keen intelligence and taste, well worth watching out for.” She will be accompanied by the Melodic Refuge Orchestra, a mixed ensemble featuring artists from Italy, Lebanon, and North Carolina. Their musical realm ranges from Arabic, Romanian, and Italian traditions to the contemporary American South.

This event is free and open to the public, and parking is free after 5:00 pm in the Park Place parking lot. The Center is also located along free Chapel Hill Transit bus routes A, CL, D, F, NU, and U. Bring a picnic blanket and stay for a while!
