Live Stream: Laurel and Hardy Live Score by Tim Carless

April 10, 2021 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Free – $10

Though better known for their films made after the silent era, Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy made a significant contribution to the silent era with a number of outstanding shorts. Laurel was born in Lancashire, England, and like Charlie Chaplin he made his way to America working with the comedy impresario Fred Karno (and at one time was Chaplin’s understudy). Oliver Hardy was born in Harlem, Georgia.

April’s live-score event features two of these shorts: Putting Pants on Philip (1927) and Two Tars (1928). Putting Pants on Philip is particularly remarkable as it is the first film that they officially did as a duo – the beginning of a long and colorful association with each other. Both of these films were made with Hal Roach (who also worked with Harold Lloyd) and each runs at roughly 20 minutes. Two Tars is considered to be one of the most elaborate short films from the silent era.

A suggested donation of $10 to support Tim and The ArtsCenter is encouraged! If you are unable to make a donation, please select the free stream option at checkout.
