Footnotes Tap Ensemble is a nonprofit professional tap company with a mission to promote, preserve, and perform this unique American art form through ensemble concerts, community performances, and tap workshops. Founded in 2002 by Robin Vail and Mimi Benjamin, Footnotes has been a consistent presence in the Triangle for 20 years.
Footnotes brings varied and highly-acclaimed repertoire including classic, historical choreography as well as commissioned works including pieces from Michelle Dorrance, Elizabeth Burke, Acia Gray, Josh Hilberman, Dorothy Wasserman, Lane Alexander, and Gene Medler, Director of the highly acclaimed North Carolina Youth Tap Ensemble.

After two quiet years during COVID, 2022 marks Footnotes’ 20th anniversary season! To celebrate this milestone and to re-enter the world of live performance with a bang, Footnotes Tap Ensemble is self-producing an evening-length show on September 3, 2022 featuring a live jazz quartet, guest appearances by Footnotes alumni and co-founders, and featuring acclaimed Dorrance Dance company artists and soloists Elizabeth Burke and Luke Hickey. The show will be followed by a reception with the company and visiting artists.
