Promoting and strengthening the artistic and cultural development of Orange County, North Carolina
Join us for a free, in-person creative poetry workshop with the talented Carrboro Poet Laureate, Liza Francis-Wolff.
Reading and writing poetry about the climate crisis can help aid us in addressing our grief and anxiety, help us understand what’s happening and what can be done, and motivate us for action.
During this workshop, Liza will explore larger topics of the climate crisis and how they relate locally in our own communities, including environmental justice, solutions to the crisis, fears and hope, and then write poetry inspired by these conversations. From your poetry, each participant will choose words they find important. Each word will be planted in the ground to grow into powerful, living extensions of their voices in public spaces throughout Carrboro and Chapel Hill. Following the workshop in early March, there will be several opportunities to volunteer as a Floragardener to plant your word.
That’s not all! Each poem will be recorded at the workshop and uploaded to a QR code printed on a sign placed next to each growing word so that people scan the code with their smartphone and listen to the poetry.
Whether you’re an experienced poet or just starting out, this workshop is open to all skill levels for teens and adults. It’s a fantastic opportunity to connect with community members, share ideas, and gain inspiration.
Spaces are limited, so be sure to secure your spot early!
