Ex Machina: Festival on the Hill

March 22 @ 7:30 pm - 8:30 pm

UNC’s Festival on the Hill is back with “EX MACHINA: Piano in the 21st Century,” led by acclaimed pianist Clara Yang. Evolving technology has been changing our lives, including how we experience art and music. This project brings together scholars and artists from different fields to contemplate the meanings of the “machine” and its role in our society.

Don’t miss the visually immersive concert featuring eight world premieres written for the piano and two genre-crossing collaborative works. Make sure your cell phone is charged for this interactive experience.

Want to learn more about the project behind the performance? On March 20, join an interdisciplinary panel of experts—from Music to Psychiatry to Data Science—as they explore the complex relationship between technology and humanity through art. And on March 21, be part of the conversation with Clara Yang and her collaborators, and learn more about their creative process and what it took to bring EX MACHINA to life. Visit the event website for more details.

This project is supported by the Department of Music, the Institute for the Arts and Humanities, the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research, the Arts & Humanities Grant Studio, and the College of Arts & Sciences at UNC-Chapel Hill.
