Eno Mountain Boys

February 29, 2020 @ 7:45 pm - March 1, 2020 @ 12:00 am

Hailing from Hillsborough, North Carolina, The Eno Mountain Boys have been cranking out a charismatic brand of pop-punk infused alternative country rock for more than a decade. Journeying through marriage, fatherhood, lineup changes, road life, loss, addiction and the new beginnings of sobriety, EMB has crafted honest, original tunes along the way that reflect the ups and downs of growing up embedded in the ever-shifting rock and roll lifestyle, framed beautifully by the rolling hills and gritty backwoods of Orange County, NC.

Originally formed by lead vocalist Dillon Shambley in 2011 as a folk/country act, they have since been perfecting their blend of pulsating classic rock and whiskey-drenched blues for seven years, culminating in a sound that is truly their own. Members include: Dillon Shambley (lead vocals/guitar), Chris Jones (lead guitar), Matt Smith (bass), Drew Ely (keys), Bryan Phelps (guitar/vocals), and Alex Constantine (vocals/drums).

Their 2015 inaugural album Deer Velvet, is a soulful reflection of personal woes and challenges of life met with drums and guitars that stomp over and into each other, like the sonic equivalent of a speeding race-car. There is a lot of Southern rock married to a lot of gritty punk, sewn together by unforgettable lead vocals from Shambley that are as convincing as they are alarming. When he croons “I’m gonna die if I stay a drinking man” on “Drinkin’ Man” you know he’s onto something. And more importantly, you know it works.

In 2017, their Our Name’s to Blame EP showcased a series of songs that revealed a stylistic maturation into their more Memphis-rock instincts. Opening track “Hate Everyone” opens with stadium-ready guitar and drums, and builds into an anthemic chorus. Memorable solos from lead guitarist Chris Jones and smoother, summery vocals from Shambley create an ear-worm landscape that is that energized, road trip with the windows down sing along music.

All of their music lends itself to participatory dancing live shows, which they frequently play around the Triangle. Stayed tuned on Facebook and follow the guys on Instagram for show dates and release announcements.
