Promoting and strengthening the artistic and cultural development of Orange County, North Carolina
Bill Smith, in his career as chef at Crook’s Corner in Chapel Hill, built a national reputation for his food. Closer to home, he used his food to build community. His kitchen is a blend of local ingredients and traditions flavored by the diversity of influences representing new tastes and traditions in the evolving Southern cuisine.
EmPOWERment, Inc. and Crook’s Corner are next door neighbors in the Northside Community of Chapel Hill. Like Bill, EmPOWERment, Inc. has a long history of working to support, build and nurture the neighborhood and the amazing people who live and work in it.
When Bill Smith announced his retirement, EmPOWERment, Inc. knew it had to honor him at its annual fundraiser, for his long-time support of the organization and their shared missions of community.
EmPOWERment, Inc. asks that you join us in our efforts to support the organization by selecting a sponsorship package for the Roast Celebrating Bill Smith.
A quote from Bill, in reference to EmPOWERment, Inc:
“I’m one of those silly people who believe that people should have decent living conditions even if their incomes are low. I’m sure there are plenty of people who would like to let me have it, so here’s your chance. The line is probably already forming. It’ll be for a good cause.”
