Ultrafaux

The Ultrafaux Ensemble crosses the boundaries of style and genre, performing original music inspired by Gypsy swing, be-bop, Balkan music, Bluegrass, swing, funk, blues, Brazilian choro, Cuban jazz, and French musette. Ultrafaux has performed at top music festivals and concert halls all over the world both as a trio and as a larger ensemble featuring top guest musicians from the jazz, bluegrass, folk, classical, and world music scenes.

The Ultrafaux Ensemble has been featured at Festival Django Reinhardt in France, Django By The Sea ME, Django-A-Gogo NY, Napa Valley Jazz Society, Kennedy Center DC, Midwest Gypsy Swingfest, Charm City Django Jazzfest, Baltimore Jazzfest, Django Birthday Festival NC, Djangoary at Glen Allen Performing Arts Center VA, and Preston Jazz and Improvisation Festival UK, to name a few.

Ultrafaux is an acoustic powerhouse of two guitars and upright bass that has thrilled a wide variety of audiences at jazz festivals and concert halls all over the world since their first CD release in 2014. Guitarists Michael Joseph harris and Sami Arefin trade dazzling leads and harmonize together on rich gypsy-inspired melodies. Ultrafaux started out as a trio but has evolved to include violin, clarinet, accordion, and mandolin. The list of top guest artists include Evan Price (San Francisco), Jason Anick (Boston), Giacomo Smith (London), Connor Stewart (New Orleans), Jonathan Greene (New York), Dallas Vietty (Philadelphia), Danny Knicely (Virginia), Matt Andrews (Baltimore), and Aaron Malone (Washington, DC). Lead guitarist and composer Michael Joseph Harris was invited to perform at the prestigious Festival Django Reinhardt in France in 2017 as the highlight of a European tour as well as Preston Jazz and Improvisation Festival in England in 2018 as part of a tour of the UK.

Ultrafaux made the front page of The Baltimore Sun Weekend section in 2016 and was named one of the top 10 artists in Baltimore by Baltimore Style Magazine that same year. They have since performed at The Kennedy Center, Django By The Sea, Midwest Gypsy Swing Festival, Charm City Django Jazz Festival, The French Embassy, IMT Folk Series, Napa Valley Jazz Society, Django-A-Gogo, Djangoary, Django Birthday Festival, Baltimore Jazzfest, Preston Jazz and Improvisation Festival, Valhalla Boathouse Theater, Red Poppy Arthouse, North Columbia Schoolhouse, and have toured throughout the United States, Europe, and Canada.
