Drawing a Person, The Head (Movement, Shape, Bone Structure)

The Drawing a Person series primarily focuses on expression and the visual language of the body. We will be drawing inspiration from professional sources on the internet and from the Poseit app, and possibly get someone to pose for one of the nights.

LEARN: To expressively articulate the human figure in a variety of sequential poses
CREATE: Drawings in pencil and charcoal

March 12th session — THE TORSO: The Head (Movement, Shape, and Bone Structure

Human expression wells up not so much from the eyes as from the torso. How do we interpret the body language of a figure that is slumped or twisted, as opposed to upright? We’ll be practicing drawing the contortions of the “bean” shape, which is primary to expressing one’s gut feelings.
