The Orange County Arts Commission, together with United Arts Council of Raleigh and Wake County, Durham Arts Council, and the office of Congressman David Price, presented an awards reception Tuesday, May 9th for the 4th Congressional District High School Art Competition. Thank you to the art teachers who participated and encouraged their students, as well as sponsors Fidelity Investments and Jerry’s Artarama Raleigh.
Congratulations to the four winners of this year’s competition:
- 1st Place Winner: “Red Light; Green Light” photography by Brooke Connolly, a senior at Cardinal Gibbons High School (Raleigh, North Carolina). Teacher: Rebecca Grant Dason. This piece will hang in the tunnel of the US Capital Building in Washington, DC.
- 2nd Place Winner: “Face it” chalk pastel by Isabella Salazar, a junior at Cardinal Gibbons High School (Raleigh, North Carolina). Teacher: Rebecca Grant Dason. This piece will hang in Representative Price’s Washington, DC, office.
- 3rd Place Winner: “Pleasant Encounter” watercolor by Jennifer Yu, a junior at William G. Enloe High School. Teacher: Trish Klenow Art. This piece will hang in Representative Price’s Raleigh office.
- 4th Place: Self portrait by Hannah Shipley, a student at Green Hope High School Teacher: Teresa Prichard. This piece will hang in Representative Price’s Western District office in Chapel Hill.
