Vitamin O: David Brooks

Polo is the oldest team sport – older than recorded history. The English are credited with spreading and modernizing the game, but “The Sport of Kings” would be extinct in North Carolina if not for David Brooks and his Triangle Area Polo Club. David, who admits to having horses in his blood, describes polo as the most fun of all the horse sports. Played four-on-four on a large field, or three-on-three on a smaller stadium field, polo is a free-flowing game similar to soccer with breakaway scoring like basketball. David says, “It is addictive…we sell fun.” Folks can learn about the sport with free tailgating during Saturday matches at Crooked Creek Farm in Hurdle Mills. David offers summer camp, lessons, coaching, boarding, rental and training of polo ponies. He loves that Orange County is near the beach and the mountains and that it has “more to do than you can get to. Where else can you get that?”
