WINNERS OF PAINT IT ORANGE PLEIN AIR PAINT-OUT ANNOUNCED


The Orange County Arts Commission and the Hillsborough Arts Council are pleased to announce the winners of the inaugural Paint it Orange Plein Air Paint-out, which took place October 25-27, 2017, throughout Orange County.  Forty-eight painters from five states participated in the painting competition, which was judged by painter John Beerman.

  • First Place: “The Alley” by Jo Anne McDonough of Mt. Carmel, TN
  • Second Place: “Alexander Dickson House” by Katharine March of Staunton, VA
  • Third Place: “Orange County Countryside” by Jeremy Sams of Archdale, NC
  • Honorable Mentions:
    • “The Mill” by Esten Walker of Durham, NC
    • “Up the Hill” by Benjamin Hamburger of Carrboro, NC
    • “Up Churton” by Chad Smith of Durham, NC
    • “Hillsborough, NC” by James Keul of Hillsborough, NC
  • Sponsor’s Choice – Mace Construction, Inc: “Eternal” by Tesh Parekh of Raleigh, NC
  • Sponsor’s Choice – Hillsborough Tourism Board: “Morning on the Eno” by Chad Smith of Durham, NC
  • Sponsor’s Choice – Jerry’s Artarama: “Very Mortal Banks” by Scott Myers of Chapel Hill, NC
  • Presenter’s Choice – Hillsborough Arts Council: “Antonia’s” by Carolyn Zbavitel of Raleigh, NC
  • Presenter’s Choice – Orange County Arts Commission: “Autumn Light” by J.J. Jiang of Cary, NC

Ten People’s Choice finalists were selected by attendees of the painting sale on Friday at the Hillsborough Arts Council.  The public is invited to vote on their favorite painting on the Orange County Arts Commission Facebook page at www.facebook.com/ocncarts through the end of November.

The exhibit of paintings will be displayed and for sale through the end of November at the Hillsborough Arts Council at 102 North Churton Street, open 12-4pm Wednesday through Saturday and 12-5pm on Sunday.
