DESCRIPTION:Figure Draw/Paint Session | June 24\nThese 3-hour sessions\, led by a moderator rather than an instructor\, offer a space to drop in and practice your drawing skills. Moderator Diane Crompton will lead the session through a traditional format that includes an initial series of short gesture poses followed by several 5\, 10 and 20 minute poses. Although there are no formal prerequisites for this session\, it’s helpful to have had drawing experience/instruction in order to make this session as meaningful as possible. DESCRIPTION:Introduction to Quilting | 6.20 – 8.1\nLearn the basic steps involved in making a quilt\, how to choose and cut your fabric\, and how to create a basic quilt block that is the building block for most quilt patterns. This will be a hands-on class with instructor provided demos of different quilting techniques. Students will need to have basic knowledge of how to operate a sewing machine to take this class. DESCRIPTION:Basketweaving | 6.12 – 7.17\nFor those interested in creating vessels from natural materials\, traditional weaving techniques\, and the therapeutic qualities of working with your hands. Students will weave three baskets\, which will introduce multiple techniques for bases\, patterns\, and borders. We will begin by weaving an open-worked garlic basket\, then will take on a fruit basket and a small handled market basket. SUMMARY:Covid Writing Recovery Project | Part 3: Public Reading
DESCRIPTION:What is the Covid Writing Recovery Project?\nThe Covid Writing Recovery Project is a community-wide arts initiative co-presented by The ArtsCenter and Till the Ground which will explore themes of resiliency and reimagining\, encouraging individuals and our community to discover meaningful responses to the challenges of our time. It is designed to play out in 4 parts. \n\n  \nPart 1: Toast to Health Writers’ Gathering (Friday\, October 21\, 6:30 – 8:00pm)\nToast to Health is a free\, in-person writers’ gathering at The ArtsCenter that is open to all. Anyone who wishes to express themselves creatively through writing is welcome! We will gather in the West End to enjoy an evening of playful word games and quick prompts meant to spark our creativity and sow the seeds for what comes next.  \nWe encourage you to enroll online or at the Box Office ahead of time – there is no cost to attend\, but it helps us to know in advance how many are coming! \n. \nPart 2: Bi-Weekly online writing prompts (November 2022 – February 2023)\nBeginning the first week of November through early February\, bi-weekly writing prompts will be posted online at tilltheground.net\, where those who joined us in Part 1 can stay connected\, explore their writing further\, and welcome others into the community to write with them.  These writing prompts will provide those who respond with an opportunity to rediscover the light in living\, cultivate resilience\, and laugh together! All of this will build towards a public reading in February where our writers can share their discoveries and inspire others in the community.  \n. \nPart 3: Public Reading at the ArtsCenter (February 2023)\nIn February\, a final and more elaborate prompt will be posted online two weeks prior to a public reading at the ArtCenter. Students will be invited to prepare pieces lasting no more than three minutes when read aloud. At the reading\, names of those who want to share their writing from the microphone will be chosen at random – up to twenty readers. After 1 1/2 hours of reading\, Karen Jessee will lead a guided discussion with the audience to highlight what we have heard together\, drawing out themes of resilience which are key to recovery. \n.  \nPart 4: Community fed Online Zine\nAfter the reading\, the ArtsCenter will publish an online “zine” incorporating writings from the public reading as well as from anyone who didn’t have the chance to read in the public event. Artwork by ArtsCenter students\, responding to the same final prompt as writers\, curated by Karen along with ArtCenter staff\, will illustrate the zine.  \n\nLed by Karen Jessee\nOver the past ten years\, Karen Jessee has regularly taught short courses and retreats\, both for local religious congregations and independently. During the pandemic\, she hosted two weekly groups via Zoom–one a contemplative study group\, the other a prompt writing group which is ongoing. Be Here Now is a one-day workshop that will focus on using improv tools to be fully engaged in the moment\, create incredible teamwork\, and enhance creative thinking\, all in the back-drop of an afternoon of fun\, games and laughter. If you are ready to learn\, stretch\, and grow all while running around acting like a kid\, this workshop is for you! No experience needed. All levels welcome. DESCRIPTION:No Shame is an open performance venue for original and compelling works of theatre. \nPieces arrive up to an hour before show time.  They’re cast\, rehearsed\, and put on stage in front of a live audience an hour later. \nWriters\, directors\, actors\, dancers\, musicians — anything goes in under 5 minutes: Comedy sketches\, dramatic monologues\, songs\, dance pieces\, rants\, dadaist constructions\, magicians\, juggling\, puppets and things that we’re not even sure exist yet. The only rules are 1) pieces must be short (under five minutes)\, 2) original and 3) can’t damage the space or audience physically. \nNo Shame is a chance to experience 15 works of art that you’ve never seen before and may never see again!
