SUMMARY:100 Pots. 100 Pounds. 300 Days.
DESCRIPTION:The 100 Pot Project was designed as a way to foster connection and creativity among students and studio members at Julie Berkowitz Ceramics. Participants shared a goal to craft 100 pots using 100 pounds of clay over 300 days from January to November\, 2025. Each pot was made with one pound or less of clay and participants were encouraged to try something new with every piece. Whether they focused on a single form or explored freely within the guidelines\, the challenge emphasized growth through experimentation.\nOpening reception: November 14th with The Artscenter in Carrboro from 6-8pm\, show running through the month of November \n\n\n	Related

SUMMARY:SCHEHERAZADE* | An Evening of Persian Flavors\, Fine Wine and Visual Storytelling
DESCRIPTION:Join us Saturday\, May 31st\, in the ArtsCenter Theatre for a richly layered evening that weaves together the culinary\, the cultural\, and the visual.\nThis immersive Persian wine dinner will transport you through taste\, texture\, and storytelling. Experience vibrant Persian cuisine\, paired with thoughtfully selected wines\, and the evocative photography of Sia Yazdanfar. \nCatered by Giorgios Hospitality Group and designed by Sia Yazdanfar\, the evening begins with a sparkling wine social hour\, where guests will mingle over passed hors d’oeuvres as your host welcomes you. Once seated\, a family-style feast will unfold. Red and white wines will be served alongside the variety of stews and kabobs\, allowing you to explore the food and drink at your own pace. To close the meal\, guests will enjoy mini Iranian sweets-infused with rosewater\, cardamom\, and pistachio-served alongside traditional Persian chai\, offering a fragrant\, comforting end to the evening. \nThroughout the dinner\, Sia will share insights into his photographic journey and introduce his exhibition\, OF QUICKSILVER AND DUST. His work captures the lyrical quality of desert landscapes\, where endless ridges\, salt flats\, and wind-carved textures create a visual symphony: \n“Photography is frozen music. There is a lyrical aspect present in certain images\, and nowhere is this more visible than in scenes of desert landscapes…\nFrom honeycomb salt patterns to flowing dunes\, these elements echo musical notes-sometimes in harmony\, sometimes in tension.” \nAs flavors unfold on the table\, so too will stories of travel\, culture\, and the quiet beauty of nature captured through a lens. This event is not just a meal\, but an experience:\na celebration of Persian heritage through food\, wine\, and art. \nEvent will be held Saturday\, May 31st\, 2025 at the ArtsCenter | $95\n6:15 PM Social | Sweet Bay Gallery\n7:00 PM Dinner | Theater \n*SCHEHERAZADE is a nod to the legendary storyteller from One Thousand and One Nights\, a collection of Middle Eastern folk tales that were compiled during the 9th century CE. \n\n\n	Related

SUMMARY:ARTIST RECEPTION & SPECIAL MUSICAL PERFORMANCE / OF QUICKSILVER AND DUST
DESCRIPTION:Dear Friends and Patrons\,\nJoin us this Friday evening for a celebration of live music and art at the Sweet Bay Gallery in the ArtsCenter. Crystal Bright will be performing selections of her original songs and standards during the artist reception for the ongoing exhibition\, OF QUICKSILVER AND DUST. \nCrystal’s music has been called “carnival folk\, fairy tale pop and gypsy jazz” and was described by the BBC as “a pleasant kind of bonkers.” Her singing has been expressed as captivating and mysterious\, featuring her mystical\, even otherworldly vocal inflections. A versatile musician and songwriter\, she creates a haunted\, whimsical\, multicultural sonic cabaret\, unique and beautifully orchestrated. \nOn display in the Sweet Bay Gallery is OF QUICKSILVER AND DUST\, a collection of photographs from journeys to various deserts and desert settlements in the heart of Iran. Expedition photographer Sia Yazdanfar spent August 2024 through March 2025 exploring the unforgiving landscapes and resilient people at these edges of the Middle East. This series of archival prints highlights the diverse spaces within these arid regions\, some a no man’s land of endless horizons\, and others punctuated by colorful bursts of life from desert dwellers\, both human and animal. \nFriday / May 16th\, 2025 / 6:00 pm – 8:30 pm\nArtsCenter / 400 Roberson St / Carrboro NC\nA selection of refreshments and artisanal Persian pastries will be provided. \nFor more information please email contact@siayazdanfar.com or check out the exhibition page for OF QUICKSILVER AND DUST at www.siayazdanfar.com \n\n\n	Related

SUMMARY:2nd Friday Art Walk / Sayeh Ensemble / Sia Yazdanfar
DESCRIPTION:Join us for an evening of live music & art this Friday evening at the ArtsCenter. The Sayeh Ensemble will be performing Iranian classical and Sufi music during the artist reception for expedition photographer Sia Yazdanfar. Two distinct collections of work are on display in the Sweet Bay Gallery & the Theater Gallery: \nNO FRIENDS BUT THE MOUNTAINS provides a glimpse into the daily lives of Kurdish people in the namesake mountainous Kurdistan Province\, where untamed landscapes are dotted by stepped villages\, home to a unique culture\, heritage\, & language that has been preserved for centuries. These images are the result of long-term photographic expeditions in 2023. \nRESTLESS ANAHITA is a kaleidoscopic journey through the fabric of female clothing in remote corners of Iran. The photographs are a variegated\, parti-colored passage through the rainbow of traditional garb in my motherland. Highlighting garments from the northwest mountains of Gilan\, to the sun-kissed islands of south-central Hormozgan\, these images pay homage to our mothers\, sisters\, and daughters \n\n\n	Related

DESCRIPTION:An exhibition of images captured in the latter half of 2021\, Accidental Traveller is the result of the latest photographic expeditions of Sia Yazdanfar. As he had done so in 2020\, Yazdanfar returned to his home country of Iran from the US\, navigating travel to multiple locations with the world in the grips of a pandemic. \nAfter a six-week run at Alamance Arts Sister Galleries\, the Accidental Traveller exhibition will debut at the Nicholson Gallery\, ArtsCenter on June 1st\, and run through June 25th. \nShot in the latter half of 2021\, this collection of photographs depicts the unique people and places of the subtropical southern fringes of Iran around Hormozgan Province. \n“Boasting some of the most colorful landscape & locals I have ever encountered\, Hormozgan Province borders the gulf where it meets the Strait of Hormuz\, the preeminent strategic chokepoint on Earth. I believe these voyages yielded some of the most kaleidoscopic & engaging photos I have had the privilege to shoot\, capturing some of the lesser known parts of the Middle East.” – Sia Yazdanfar \nReception and additional events will be announced throughout the exhibition:\nwww.artscenterlive.org\nwww.siayazdanfar.com \nGallery hours:\nMonday – Friday 9:00 am-9:00 pm\nSaturday – Sunday 10:00 am-5:00 pm \n\n\n	Related

SUMMARY:James McMurtry
DESCRIPTION:The New York Times Magazine’s cover story “25 Songs That Tell Us Where Music Is Going” (Sunday\, March 12) prominently features a four-page spread focusing on James McMurtry’s “Copper Canteen\,” from his 2015 release Complicated Game. The author points directly to the song’s frequently quoted opening line as a representative passage in McMurtry’s work: “Honey\, don’t you be yelling at me while I’m cleaning my gun.” \n“Though that line about the gun got a big laugh when McMurtry played it in Dallas\,” Ruth Graham writes\, “I still don’t know whether to hear it as a joke or a threat\, and McMurtry has never been one to offer the easy comfort of a straight answer.” \nAdditionally\, while many fans consider McMurtry an overtly political songwriter (“We Can’t Make It Here Anymore\,” “Cheney’s Toy”)\, Graham notes that he’s actually more concerned with the effect of policy on personal workaday matters. “McMurtry often writes about how seemingly distant political concerns nudge his characters’ choices and prod their psyches\,” she says\, “the stretched budget of the Veterans Affairs Department or the birth of a new national park’s consuming the neighbors’ land through eminent domain.” \nRead the New York Times Magazine in full here. \nThose living and visiting Austin during South by Southwest this week will have several chances to catch McMurtry\, from his full-band showcase at Mojo Nixon’s Jalapeno Pancake Mayhem at the Continental Club to a solo gig at El Mercado’s Backstage. Fans on the East Coast can see him on his Stateside Solo tour later in March\, which launches at the Clementine Cafe in Harrisonburg\, Virginia on March 25 and routes throughout the region before concluding at New York City’s City Winery on April 2. \n“Nothing makes you miss Waffle House like a couple of weeks in Europe\,” says McMurtry\, who has been touring abroad recently. “The term ‘Continental Breakfast’ is an oxymoron.” \n“James McMurtry may be the truest\, fiercest songwriter of his generation” -Stephen King \nLinks: Website | Facebook | Twitter \n\n\n	Related
