SUMMARY:Metal Etching & Forming
DESCRIPTION:Metal Etching & Forming \nStudents who have completed the First Step–Basic Techniques will texture copper and/or silver using two etching techniques.  Students will be shown Galvanic Etching\, also known as electrolytic etching\, using electricity and a salt solution (no acid is used\, and the solution can be used for an indefinite period of time)\, and etching using an acid solution.  In both forms of etching\, students will learn the best type of resist to use\, such as Sharpie Marker\, Staz-on Ink\, nail polish\, tape\, or a special paper to transfer a design onto the metal.  The textured metal will then be formed using the hydraulic press.  Students will learn anti-clastic bracelet forms to shape the metal using the hydraulic press and bracelet.  Students must contact the instructor prior to class to discuss materials to bring to class. \n  \nSusan Walser – Saturday & Sunday\, 10am-4pm\, Apr 18 & Apr 19 (Spring 2020)\n  \nPREREQUISITE: The First Step–Basic Techniques. \nThe class materials fee of $40\, payable to the instructor at the first class\, will include material to make one set of copper earrings and a copper bracelet.  Metals for additional projects may be purchased at market value from the instructor. \nPlease wear clothes you can get dirty or bring a craft apron to wear. \nPlease note:  Jewelry students must be at least 18 years of age\, except for courses in Metal Clay\, where they can be as young as 13 (with parent). \n\n\n	Related

SUMMARY:Stamp It\, Roll It\, Enamel It!
DESCRIPTION:This workshop combines the fun of metal working and the excitement of Basse-taille enameling. Named after the French word meaning low-cut\, this enameling technique dates back to Renaissance Europe in the 14th– 16th centuries. \nIn day one of this workshop students will learn a variety of versatile metalsmithing techniques from chasing and design stamping to roller texturing and embossing on copper or fine silver to create unique bas relief background surfaces for original jewelry designs. During day two\, these pieces are further transformed as students explore adding color with layers of transparent glass over the metal surface. The resulting effect is the distinctive luminosity of Basse-taille as light is reflected back through the transparent enamel layers from varying depths of the metal surfaces below. \n  \nR. Marasca & B. McFadyen – Sat & Sun\, 10am-4pm\, Feb 22 & 23 (Winter 2020)\n  \nA materials fee of $25 dollars is due to instructors at the first class. SUMMARY:Beginning Metalsmithing: Soldering – Stacking Rings
