SUMMARY:Embracing Tranquility
DESCRIPTION:The Hillsborough Gallery of Arts is pleased to announce Embracing Tranquility\, kiln-formed and fused glass by Mark Kinsella\, Native American-inspired totems and wall hangings by Jude Lobe and abstract metal sculpture by Jason Smith. Embracing Tranquility will be in the gallery from June 23rd through July 26th. \nAn opening reception will be held during Hillsborough’s Last Friday Art Walk on June 26th from 6-9pm. During the art walk the Jackson Street Band will play live music on the front patio. \nThe show will include an artist talk by Mark Kinsella and Jason Smith in the gallery on Saturday\, July 11th at 4pm. \nGlass artist Mark Kinsella explores the paradox of glass: a material born of intense heat and violent transformation that\, once cooled\, possesses a profound\, silent clarity. Using kiln-forming techniques\, Kinsella creates calm suspended moments in time that he calls his “meditation on stillness.”\nSays Kinsella\, “Each piece is a study in balance. The fluidity of the glass contrasts with its solid form; the warmth of the kiln gives way to the cool touch of the finished surface. Through layering\, texture\, and color\, I attempt to translate the intangible feeling of tranquility into a tangible object. My goal is to create a space for the viewer to stop\, look\, and simply be.” \nIn his work\, sculptor Jason Smith invites viewers to pause\, breathe\, and reconnect with a sense of inner calm. “Metal has been my primary medium for 30 years and this exhibition is my personal meditation on finding peace amid the noise of daily life\,” says Smith. “Each piece is an invitation to embrace stillness without emptiness\, strength without tension\, and serenity in simplicity.”\nIn this show Smith collaborates with Kinsella to create metal sculptures with fused-glass elements\, exploring the quiet strength found in balance\, flow\, and stillness\, and allowing translucent color and captured light to soften the rigidity of the steel. Serenity is not static\, but something that reveals itself gradually through light and reflection. \nFor artist Jude Lobe creating art for this show has also been a way of embracing serenity\, and she hopes viewing her work will produce these same calm\, peaceful feelings. Her landscape paintings take us to places of quiet reflection. Her totems recall the Native Americans’ philosophy of man as part of nature\, and her enamels remind us of the things in nature that bring us joy. \nThe Hillsborough Gallery of Arts is owned by 21 local artists featuring painting\, sculpture\, photography\, glass arts\, jewelry\, turned wood\, handcrafted furniture\, pottery\, scratchboard\, and mixed media. 121 N. Churton Street\, Hillsborough NC. Hours: Monday through Saturday 10-6\, Sunday 12-4. For more information about the show visit www.HillsboroughGallery.com \n\n\n	Related

SUMMARY:MUSE
DESCRIPTION:Sterling silver and gemstone jewelry by Arianna Bara\, nature and figurative watercolor paintings by Ryann Carey\, artistic handcrafted fine furniture by Pete Rodrigues. \nMuse will be in the gallery May 26th through June 21st with an opening reception during Hillsborough’s Last Friday Art Walk on May 29th from 6-9pm. During the art walk Steve Fishman & The Pied Vipers will play stringy\, swingy blues and original music on the front patio. \nThe show will include an artist talk by Bara\, Carey and Rodrigues in the gallery on Saturday\, June 20th at 4pm. \nJeweler Arianna Bara’s muse has always been nature: pattern\, texture\, shape\, color\, tone and shadow. Her new work incorporates stones from her travels to Tucson\, where yearly gem shows attract sellers and buyers from around the world. Some of Bara’s favorite pieces in the show include Morrisonite jasper\, a rare and highly sought after jasper with strong patterns and color; dendritic limestone\, which is characterized by delicate trickling lines often resembling plant fossils; and subtle but striking Australian boulder opal. Much of Bara’s recent work includes an ancient Korean gilding technique called Keum-boo which she has also used for some pieces in this show.\nInitially painter Ryann Carey felt the title “Muse” would cause her to focus her work in a single direction. “I admire artists who dedicate themselves in this way\,” said Carey “because it offers the opportunity to develop not only technical skill but also an intimacy with an idea or subject. Yet whether from a lack of discipline or scattered mind\, the moment I try to settle on a singular muse\, I feel an immediate sense of confinement. It is as if choosing one thing requires me to turn away from everything else. That feeling of being boxed in makes me resist the very structure I desired to attain.”\nStill\, what she creates is a cohesive body of work in a less obvious way\, showing what strikes her in the visual environment surrounding her. Says Carey\, “My work is an attempt to honor and share these pauses. That moment of awareness when the world feels briefly heightened and clear.”\nFor woodworker Pete Rodrigues the definition of Muse is someone or something that provides creative inspiration. “As I continued to think about creative inspiration\, I realized that having some type of curve within my work always inspires me\,” he said. “So\, I decided to have a curved form within every piece. My mind immediately started to design\, and I’m excited to display wall hanging pieces and furniture that have this curved form within their design.” \nThe Hillsborough Gallery of Arts is owned by 21 local artists featuring painting\, sculpture\, photography\, glass arts\, jewelry\, turned wood\, handcrafted furniture\, pottery\, scratchboard\, and mixed media.

121 N. Churton Street\, Hillsborough NC. Hours: Monday through Saturday 10-6\, Sunday 12-4. For more information about the show visit www.HillsboroughGallery.com \n\n\n	Related
