SUMMARY:Angela Winter with The River Otters
DESCRIPTION:Angela Winter with The River Otters at The ArtsCenter 11/11/22\nLinks: Website | Instagram | Bandcamp | Spotify | YouTube \n\n  \nFriday\, November 11\, 2022 \nDear ArtsCenter Patrons\, \nMask and Proof of Vaccination or a negative Covid-19 test taken by a licensed health professional within the previous 72 hours before the event are required for entry. \nDoors: 8 p.m. | Show: 8:30 p.m. | $15 \n Angela Winter creates experimental\, ritual\, and ambient music for thresholds\, where synths\, keys\, and strings meet otherworldly vocals\, shimmering drones\, and overtones. Her music has been described as “beautifully haunting” (Bandcamp Daily)\, “stunning” (Foxy Digitalis)\, and “spellbinding” (Lost and Found Sounds). Bandcamp featured her albums Sonic Essences and lightness as New & Notable releases\, and her music has appeared on radio shows from Asheville to Australia and in audio compilations from Washington\, DC\, to Oxford\, UK. She has performed at Carnegie Hall\, and in addition to her own shows and festival performances\, she has opened for John Cale (The Velvet Underground). \nTonight\, Winter will present an evening of music\, poetry\, and visuals centered around her newest work\, Frost\, a collection of songs consisting of the poems of Robert Frost set to wintry piano and voice compositions\, or sometimes spun wildly into ambient space.  The art-folk trio\, The River Otters will open. \nArt-Folk trio\, The River Otters\, are world builders. Each of their compositions is a carefully rendered landscape with its own cast of characters and gravitational rules. Hailing from the woodlands of Orange County\, NC\, their raga-infused chamber blues and soft-spoken country narratives evoke the complexities of the forest. With a wide range of influences that includes John Fahey\, Ahmad Jamal\, and Leonard Cohen\, they play an eclectic array of original and traditional songs that are both deep and approachable. Their music not only soothes and delights but inspires reflection. They are currently finishing an LP inspired by a lost native township hidden somewhere in the trees that surround their Piedmont home. \n\n\n	Related

SUMMARY:Bob Mould Solo Electric: Distortion and Blue Hearts!
DESCRIPTION:Rescheduled from March 1\, 2022\n\n\nBob Mould Solo Electric: Distortion and Blue Hearts!\n\n\nH.C. McEntire\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSUNDAY\, OCTOBER 16\n Doors: 7pm : Show: 8pm\n $24 / Day Of : $27\n\n\n\n\n\n\n The ArtsCenter\n\n\n\n  \nMask and Proof of Vaccination and or a negative Covid-19 test taken by a licensed health professional within the previous 72 hours before the event are required for entry. \n  \nThis show is presented by Cat’s Cradle & WUNC Music. \n  \nLegendary musician Bob Mould announces his “Distortion and Blue Hearts!” tour starting September 16\, 2021\, in Boston at Paradise. The tour is in two parts. For the first three weeks\, Bob will be joined by Jason Narducy on bass and drummer Jon Wurster. Beginning October 15 in Bloomington\, IL\, Mould will perform “Solo Distortion” electric shows (full run of dates and locations below). \n  \nOn July 16\, 2021\, before any tour dates happen\, Demon Music Group will conclude their year-long Bob Mould retrospective campaign with their fourth vinyl box\, Distortion: Live. The 8 LP set includes live recordings from Mould’s solo career and his band Sugar. \n  \nThis box follows October 2020’s 8 LP Distortion: 1989-1995 vinyl set\, which took in Mould’s early solo outings as well as his records with the much-beloved Sugar\, January 2021’s 9 LP Distortion: 1996-2007 box set continuing through the next steps in Mould’s solo career and his outings as LoudBomb and Blowoff\, April 2021’s 7 LP Distortion 2008-2019 covering District Line to Sunshine Rock\, and the 24 CD Distortion: 1989-2019 box\, which covers the entirety of his post-Hüsker Dü output. \n  \nMould’s live shows will span his entire 40+ year career\, including songs from the Distortion collection and from his landmark band Hüsker Dü\, as well as songs from last year’s explosive and critically acclaimed album Blue Hearts — about which Rolling Stone’s 4 out of 5 star review raved\, “feels like a lost Hüsker Dü album with Mould howling invective over his buzzsawing guitar.” \n  \n“It’s been a year and a half away from the stage. I’ve missed the noise\, the sweat\, and seeing your smiling faces. I’m fully vaccinated\, and I hope you are too\, because this Fall will be a punk rock party with the band — and the solo shows will be loud and proud as well. It’s time to make up lost time\, reconnect\, and celebrate together with live music!” \n  \nAs with the previously released box sets in the Distortion collection\, each album has been mastered by Jeff Lipton and Maria Rice at Peerless Mastering in Boston and is presented with brand new artwork designed by illustrator Simon Marchner and pressed on 140g clear vinyl with unique splatter effects. This box set includes 4 live albums: Live At The Cabaret Metro\, 1989; the Sugar album The Joke Is Always On Us\, Sometimes; LiveDog98 (first time on vinyl)\, and Live at ATP 2008 (first time on vinyl). In addition\, the set includes a 28-page companion booklet featuring liner notes by journalist Keith Cameron; contributions from Bully’s Alicia Bognanno; rare photographs and memorabilia\, and a bonus LP Distortion Plus: Live\, which features live rarities including B-Sides and stand-out tracks from the Circle of Friends concert film. \n  \nDiscover more about the box sets including full track listings and FAQs here: \n\n\nBob Mould: Distortion \n\n\n  \nLinks: Website | Facebook | Instagram | Twitter \n\n\n\n\n\n\n	Related

SUMMARY:Jonathan Richman with Tommy Larkins
DESCRIPTION:Dear ArtsCenter Patrons\, \nMask and Proof of Vaccination and or a negative Covid-19 test taken by a licensed health professional within the previous 72 hours before the event are required for entry. \n“Richman is one of America’s most unique and dynamic songwriters…” – Nashville Scene “Richman didn’t need much else besides a beat to work his magic.” – New York Daily News \n“Buy tickets early. Buy tickets often. This is just good general life advice\, but even more so when you’re talking about Jonathan Richman. Don’t get denied at the door\, don’t leave things up to chance: You will regret it.” – Nashville Scene \n“Rhymes worthy of Ogden Nash.” – The New York Times \n“Richman has spent decades removing barriers between himself and his audience\, cultivating an intimacy that is almost extinct in modern music.”- Nashville Scene \n“The music we’re doing now works well in quiet places like theaters and performing art centers. We still don’t use a program or a set list so we don’t know what we’ll do until we do it. Please do not expect old songs. Many singers my age do a retrospective; this show is not like that. It’s mostly stuff made up in the last 3 and 4 years. Some of the songs presented might be in different languages; this is not to be esoteric or clever\, it’s because the different languages help me express different feelings sometimes. One last thing\, my idea of a good show has nothing to do with applause. It’s about if all the songs I sang that night were ones that I felt.” – Jonathan \n\n\n	Related

SUMMARY:Bombino
DESCRIPTION:Mask and Proof of Vaccination and or a negative Covid-19 test taken by a licensed health professional within the previous 72 hours before the event are required for entry.\nThe ArtsCenter\, in partnership with Sonic Pie Productions & Friends of World Music\, presents Tuareg band\, Bombino\, Thursday\, June 2.  \nBorn in 1980 in the nomadic Tuareg encampment Tidene\, just outside Agadez\, Niger\, Bombino (born Goumour Almoctar\, also known as Oumara Moctar) came of age during much political upheaval\, fleeing with his family to Algeria by 1990\, teaching himself guitar by watching videos of his heroes Jimi Hendrix\, Dire Straits\, Ali Farka Toure and Tinariwen\, and returning to northern Niger’s largest city\, Agadez\, seven years later\, when he took on music professionally. After years of honing his skills back home and spending time as a shepherd in Libya\, he first left Africa and traveled to California in 2006 as lead soloist on tour with Tidawt. There he recorded a desert blues take on the Rolling Stones classic “Hey Negrita” alongside Keith Richards and Charlie Watts. The following year\, filmmaker Hisham Mayet captured Bombino and his electric band for the recording Music from Niger: Guitars from Agadez\, Vol. 2\, released in 2009 on Sublime Frequencies\, Bombino’s first official album release.  \n  \nAs the political landscape heated up in Niger again in 2007 and two of his friends and bandmates were accused of being ‘Tuareg rebels’ and presumed killed by the government\, Bombino fled to Burkina Faso\, where in 2009 he was tracked down by another filmmaker\, Ron Wyman. Ron wanted to help the artist make a proper record. Released in 2011\, that record\, Agadez\, showcased Bombino’s captivating vocals\, his hypnotic\, awe-inspiring guitar playing and evocative rhythms\, cited as one of NPR’s best discoveries of the year. For his second album\, 2013’s Nomad\, Bombino traveled to Nashville to record with the Black Keys’s Dan Auerbach. The result was a marvelous set\, full of grit and funky elegance that firmly established Bombino as a star on the world stage and one of the world’s best guitarists. Bombino went to upstate New York to record his third album\, Azel\, with his band and producer David Longstreth of Dirty Projectors. It was on Azel that Bombino introduced a new genre he dubs ‘Tuareggae’ – a blend of Tuareg guitar with reggae rhythm – to the world. \n  \nHis next studio album\, Deran\, was recorded in Casablanca\, Morocco in fall 2017 with just his band and his long-time manager\, Eric Herman (who produced the album). The album received rave reviews from across the globe including a full page feature in the New York Times which dubbed Bombino ‘The Sultan of Shred.’ On December 7\, 2018\, Deran was nominated for a Grammy award (Best World Music Album)\, the first-ever Grammy nomination for an artist from Niger. Thousands of proud Nigeriens attended a parade to welcome Bombino home from the Grammy Awards upon his return to Niamey.  \n  \nHis latest album\, ‘Live In Amsterdam’ was recorded at a performance in November 2019 and released in November 2020 (Partisan Records). Bombino dedicated the album to his dear friend and bandmate Illias Mohamed who tragically passed away just a few weeks before the release of the album. The concert in Amsterdam from which the album was made was one of Illias’ final performances. Regardless of the challenges life throws at him\, Bombino marches ever forward on his mission to use music to spread love\, understanding\, and the beauty of Tuareg culture throughout the world. \n  \n\nRecommended for fans of Jimi Hendrix\, Les Flies de Illighadad\, and Ali Farke Toure. Learn more about Bombino \n\n\n\n	Related

DESCRIPTION:Attention Patrons\, \nDue to the increase of the Delta Variant and the danger it poses\, we are writing to let you know that starting October 1st\, 2021\, in additional to masks\, proof of vaccination will be required for all attendees of in-person performances at the ArtsCenter. \n  \nDavid Burney\, lead singer for the acclaimed Johnny Cash tribute band Johnny Folsom 4\, brings his one-man show to The ArtsCenter for two shows\, April 29-30\, 2022. \nIn “Hello\, I’m Johnny Cash” Burney shares an intimate portrayal of the Man in Black’s life story from growing up in Dyess\, Arkansas to his final days after the death of his beloved June Carter. From his early years at Sun Records\, to his world-famous prison concerts and television show\, to the unexpected success of the American Recordings albums and MTV videos at the end of his career — Burney tells the story of Johnny Cash through anecdotes and\, of course\, the songs the whole world knows and loves. \nWhat are others saying about David Burney’s portrayal of Johnny Cash: \nNo Depression magazine says: “for those of us unable to have seen Cash perform during his life\, this is more than a treat. It’s a time machine.” \nRobert Nash\, Executive Director of the Cultural Center of Cape Cod says “I loved every minute of it. It was so believable I thought I was listening to Johnny Cash.” \nRebecca Newton\, Director of the Carolina Theatre of Durham says: “From the time he takes the first step on the stage to the last word and gesture of his show\, David commands the stage and honors Johnny Cash with all the respect Mr. Cash deserves.” \nAnd Jackie Cash\, Johnny Cash’s niece\, says “Oh my Lord! DESCRIPTION:The Foreign Landers is a duo hailing from opposite sides of the Atlantic united by their love of  bluegrass and traditional folk music and their love for each other. Together they combine the musical styles of their respective homelands\, along with their instrumental prowess and haunting vocals to create something new. \nIt was more than unlikely circumstances that brought these two together. David Benedict grew  up in South Carolina playing with the only Celtic folk band in town\, while Tabitha Agnew was  perhaps the only 12 year-old in Northern Ireland who started playing the 5-string banjo after a  chance hearing of an Alison Krauss & Union Station record. Ironically\, it took each a while to discover the traditional music of their own countries\, but they eventually came around. Both  excelled at their instruments and found themselves playing with some of the most promising  young acoustic bands on the scene today—David with the Boston-band Mile Twelve and Tabitha  with both Cup O’Joe and Midnight Skyracer from the UK. With such unique common threads\,  there was an instant connection when Tabitha and David finally met. \nNow married and based in the States\, the Benedicts are finally making music on their own. Their  forth-coming debut EP marks the first chapter in their journey together\, and the release of the title  track “Put All Your Troubles Away” will take you along with them to uncharted musical  territories. \n  \nThe Foreign Landers Website > \n  \nDue to the increase of the Delta Variant and the danger it poses\, we are writing to let you know that starting October 1st\, 2021\, in additional to masks\, proof of vaccination will be required for all attendees of in-person performances at the ArtsCenter. \nThis was a difficult decision to make\, however given the risks that the new variant poses to the health of the community\, we believe this organizational mandate is the most sensible measure for the safety of the community. \nAll attendees are required to wear a mask or face covering for this event. \n\n\n	Related

SUMMARY:Kaki King
DESCRIPTION:Known as one of the greatest guitar innovators of our time\, Kaki King presents MODERN YESTERDAYS\, a refinement of her now signature guitar-projection mapping performance. With technicolor imagination\, technical wizardry\, and carefully choreographed guitar and drum playing\, “she’ll do the unexpected\, every time” (Digital Trends). Bridging future-forward modernity with contemplative longing\, MODERN YESTERDAYS sends us on an audiovisual journey reset by our recent past\, arriving at the emotional place we yearn to visit. \nThe album Modern Yesterdays (released in late 2020 on Cantaloupe Music) derives broadly from the music composed for Data Not Found (DNF)\, Kaki King’s largest-scale and most theatrical performance piece yet. With the post-pandemic performance world ever-evolving\, Kaki King set out to create an analog to Data Not Found\, which can now be found in MODERN YESTERDAYS: an interlocking puzzle piece nimble enough to tour the world in 2021\, and beyond. \n**In Data Not Found\, numerous projection sources\, an enormous tent\, and 1000 pounds of sand were set to tell a story about the traces of things we leave behind in this world.** Unfortunately\, the show’s production came to a halt in March 2020 due to the COVID-19 lockdown. \n  \nHailed by Rolling Stone as “a genre unto herself\,” composer and guitarist Kaki King is a true iconoclast. Kaki King is known for her percussive and jazz-tinged melodies\, energetic live shows\, use of multiple tunings on acoustic and lap steel guitar\, and her diverse range in different genres. Over the past 10 years\, the Brooklyn-based artist has released six extraordinarily diverse and distinctive albums\, and performed with such icons as Foo Fighters and Timbaland. From 2015 to 2019\, The Neck is a Bridge to the Body was Kaki King’s most prolific touring project and adventurous album — a provocative and beautiful piece that directly projects visual art onto her guitar — which\, throughout the course of the piece\, becomes her ontological tabula rasa. She has touched audiences worldwide in innumerable world tours\, playing venues and festivals as diverse as Sydney Opera House\, North Sea Jazz Fest\, the Krannert Center\, The Arts Center at NYU Abu Dhabi\, the Ferst Center For The Arts\, MASS MoCA\, Kennedy Center\, MOMA\, North Sea Jazz Fest\, Vancouver Folk Fest\, Singapore’s Mosaic Festival\, Japan’s Fuji Rock festival\, the Festival of Arts & Ideas\, and more. \n  \nLinks: Website | Facebook | Instagram | Twitter \n  \nDue to the increase of the Delta Variant and the danger it poses\, we are writing to let you know that starting October 1st\, 2021\, in additional to masks\, proof of vaccination will be required for all attendees of in-person performances at the ArtsCenter. \nThis was a difficult decision to make\, however given the risks that the new variant poses to the health of the community\, we believe this organizational mandate is the most sensible measure for the safety of the community. \nAll attendees are required to wear a mask or face covering at in-person shows. \n\n\n	Related

SUMMARY:Bob Mould Solo Electric: Distortion and Blue Hearts!
DESCRIPTION:Due to the increase of the Delta Variant and the danger it poses\, we are writing to let you know that starting October 1st\, 2021\, in additional to masks\, proof of vaccination will be required for all attendees of in-person performances at the ArtsCenter. \nThis was a difficult decision to make\, however given the risks that the new variant poses to the health of the community\, we believe this organizational mandate is the most sensible measure for the safety of the community. \n  \nDoors open 7pm / Show 8pm \n$24 advanced / $27 day of \n  \nLegendary musician Bob Mould announces his “Distortion and Blue Hearts!” tour starting September 16\, 2021\, in Boston at Paradise. The tour is in two parts. For the first three weeks\, Bob will be joined by Jason Narducy on bass and drummer Jon Wurster. Beginning October 15 in Bloomington\, IL\, Mould will perform “Solo Distortion” electric shows (full run of dates and locations below). \nOn July 16\, 2021\, before any tour dates happen\, Demon Music Group will conclude their year-long Bob Mould retrospective campaign with their fourth vinyl box\, Distortion: Live. The 8 LP set includes live recordings from Mould’s solo career and his band Sugar. \nThis box follows October 2020’s 8 LP Distortion: 1989-1995 vinyl set\, which took in Mould’s early solo outings as well as his records with the much-beloved Sugar\, January 2021’s 9 LP Distortion: 1996-2007 box set continuing through the next steps in Mould’s solo career and his outings as LoudBomb and Blowoff\, April 2021’s 7 LP Distortion 2008-2019 covering District Line to Sunshine Rock\, and the 24 CD Distortion: 1989-2019 box\, which covers the entirety of his post-Hüsker Dü output. \nMould’s live shows will span his entire 40+ year career\, including songs from the Distortion collection and from his landmark band Hüsker Dü\, as well as songs from last year’s explosive and critically acclaimed album Blue Hearts — about which Rolling Stone’s 4 out of 5 star review raved\, “feels like a lost Hüsker Dü album with Mould howling invective over his buzzsawing guitar.” \n“It’s been a year and a half away from the stage. I’ve missed the noise\, the sweat\, and seeing your smiling faces. I’m fully vaccinated\, and I hope you are too\, because this Fall will be a punk rock party with the band — and the solo shows will be loud and proud as well. It’s time to make up lost time\, reconnect\, and celebrate together with live music!” \nAs with the previously released box sets in the Distortion collection\, each album has been mastered by Jeff Lipton and Maria Rice at Peerless Mastering in Boston and is presented with brand new artwork designed by illustrator Simon Marchner and pressed on 140g clear vinyl with unique splatter effects. \nDiscover more about the box sets including full track listings and FAQs here:\nhttps://www.demonmusicgroup.co.uk/bob-mould-distortion/ \n \n\n\n	Related

SUMMARY:Transactors Improv [POSTPONED]
DESCRIPTION:South’s longest-running improvisational theater returns to the stage with Gifts and Ghosts\, a show about how the holidays can be happy and haunted\, present and past–sometimes all at the same time. This fully improvised performance is based on audience suggestions and comprised of five segments 15-20 minutes long. \nThe cast for Gifts and Ghosts includes new Transactors Dana Marks and Rachel Reyes along with director Greg Hohn\, Bart Hubbard\, Juliet Kaplan\, Steve Scott\, and Jane Allen Wilson. Glenn Mehrbach provides piano accompaniment. Jenn Evans handles lights and sound. \nThe company formed in 1983 at The ArtsSchool in Carrboro\, N.C.\, as a children’s theater. Much of its work was scripted\, but over time the group metamorphosed into a professional touring company performing improvisational theater for audiences of all ages. \nTransactors Improv performs primarily in Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill and has appeared coast to coast and from Florida to Canada. The company has been heard on National Public Radio and the Canadian Broadcasting Co. Transactors Improv also teaches people of all ages in a wide variety of venues\, from corporations and colleges to elementary schools and arts camps. \nMembers of Transactors Improv have had the opportunity to study individually and collectively with the leading lights of improv\, including Groundlings founder Gary Austin\, Joe Bill\, Del Close\, Martin de Maat\, Charna Halpern of iO\, Keith Johnstone\, Annoyance Theater’s Mick Napier\, Second City\, Paul Sills\, and Mark Sutton. \nLearn more about Transactors Improv here: Transactors Improv Company \nTickets $15 Public\, $12 Senior\, $10 Student \n  \nDue to the spread of the Delta Variant starting October 1\, 2021\, The ArtsCenter will be requiring proof of vaccination and masks (as per state-mandate) for anyone who attends our ArtSchool classes and in-person performances. This was not an easy decision to make however as a leading community organization\, The ArtsCenter has a responsibility to the whole community and feel this mandate is the most sensible safety measure.\nThank you \nAll attendees are required to wear a mask or face covering at in-person shows. \n\n\n	Related
