DESCRIPTION:Beyond Slavery’s Shadow: North Carolina’s Free People of Color\nWith Warren Milteer Jr. \nOn January 20\, 2022\, at 7pm\, the Orange County Historical Museum\, Alliance for Historic Hillsborough\, and Burwell School Historic Site will be joining together to present a program by UNC Greensboro Assistant Professor of History\, Warren E. Milteer Jr. The talk examines the lives of free persons of color in North Carolina. \nIt will begin at 7PM and will be a hybrid event\, held at Eagle Lodge\, #19\, in Hillsborough\, while also streamed live. Those who attend in person will be asked to wear masks. Register at www.orangehistorync.org/events\, and contact manager@orangehistorync.org for more information. \nMilteer received his Ph.D. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2014. His publications include two academic books\, Beyond Slavery’s Shadow: Free People of Color in the South (UNC Press\, 2021) and North Carolina’s Free People of Color\, 1715-1885 (LSU Press\, 2020)\, the independently published Hertford County\, North Carolina’s Free People of Color and Their Descendants (2016)\, as well as articles in the Journal of Social History and the North Carolina Historical Review. Milteer was the recipient of the Historical Society of North Carolina’s R. D. W. Connor Award in 2014 and 2016 for the best journal article in the North Carolina Historical Review. \n\n\n	Related
