DESCRIPTION:This is a call for local artists! \nChapel Hill Public Library\, in partnership with Chapel Hill Community Arts & Culture\, is asking you to make small (5” wide x 7” tall) original works of art on paper\, inspired by books or authors that have been challenged\, censored\, or banned. \nBased on their artistic excellence\, seven of these works will be selected by a jury to receive a $100 prize and become trading cards; artwork is featured on the front and an artist’s statement and information about the book or author are on the back. All entries are displayed in an exhibit at the library during Banned Books Week and beyond.  Trading cards are distributed for free during Banned Books Week and beyond. \nBanned Books Week is an annual national event celebrating the freedom to read and the importance of intellectual freedom. Are you interested in writing longer\, more expansive poems\, though moving beyond one page or a single subject feels like diving deep into the Marianas Trench? Although the focus of this workshop is on revision\, you are welcome to write new work as we look at style\, voice\, energy\, imagery\, and technique in complex poems by Tony Hoagland\, Dorianne Laux\, Al Maginnes\, Pattiann Rogers\, William Wright\, and others. We’ll consider how to apply what we learn from their work to our own poems-in-progress\, expanding and enriching them in the process. Note: This workshop is free and open to the public. DESCRIPTION:All interested community members are invited to participate in a focus group to provide input on the 140 West Plaza and the Exhale sculpture from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday\, October 16th in Room A at the Chapel Hill Public Library (100 Library Drive\, Chapel Hill\, NC). \nIn June of 2018\, Town Council directed staff to initiate a stakeholder input process to explore ideas for activating the 140 West Plaza and receive input about the idea of relocating the Exhale sculpture. This focus group is one of those stakeholder input sessions. \nWe expect this session to last one hour. The session is divided into four short guided activities designed to innovatively engage stakeholders\, so please bring your creativity and curiosity!
