DESCRIPTION:Sun\, Feb. 18\, 2024\n2:00 pm\nCarrboro Town\nCommons \nProvided by The Equal Justice Initiative (EJI) in partnership\nwith Orange County Community Remembrance Coalition (OCCRC) \nKEYNOTE SPEAKER\nDr. Reginald Hildebrand\nFormer co-chair of the NC Freedom Park Board of Directors and a trustee\nof the NC Humanities Council.\n• Member of the NC African American Heritage Commission\n• Member of the Historic Civil Rights Commemorations Task Force\nof the Town of Chapel Hill\n• Taught African American Studies and History at UNC-Chapel Hill\,\nWilliams College\, and Durham Technical Community College \nSPOKEN WORD\nCJ Suitt\nPerformance poet\, arts educator\, and community organizer whose work is\nrooted in storytelling and social justice. CJ was recently appointed as the\nfirst Poet Laureate of Chapel Hill\, NC.\nMUSIC \nBrown Sugar Strings\nof Bull City Music School \nOn October 30\, 1898\, a mob of white men lynched a young Black man named Manly McCauley a few miles west of Chapel Hill. Mr. McCauley lived and worked on the farm of a white couple named Milton and Maggie Brewer. On October 26\, Mr. McCauley and Maggie Brewer left the farm and headed south. After news spread that the two had left together a group of white men joined Mr. Brewer in search of them. The mob found them together about 40 miles away\, seized them\, and carried them back towards Chapel Hill. \n\n\n	Related
