SUMMARY:Dual Exhibitions: No Friends but the Mountains / Restless Anahita
DESCRIPTION:Join us from May 30th thru July 1st for these dual exhibitions showcasing the photographic storytelling of Sia Yazdanfar. NO FRIENDS BUT THE MOUNTAINS and RESTLESS ANAHITA are continuing bodies of work\, each documenting aspects of traditional worlds in the Middle East. \nThe collections of images will be on display in two galleries at Alamance Arts: Picasso’s Gallery and the Patrick and Rhyne Sister Galleries. \nPer Sia Yazdanfar: \nNO FRIENDS BUT THE MOUNTAINS provides a glimpse into the daily lives of Kurdish people in the namesake mountainous Kurdistan Province\, where untamed landscapes are dotted by stepped villages\, home to a unique culture\, heritage\, and language that has been preserved for centuries. These images are the result of long-term photographic expeditions in 2023.\nRESTLESS ANAHITA is a kaleidoscopic journey through the fabric of female clothing in remote corners of Iran. The photographs are a variegated\, parti-colored passage through the rainbow of traditional garb in my motherland. Highlighting garments from the northwest mountains of Gilan\, to the sun-kissed islands of south-central Hormozgan\, these images pay homage to our mothers\, sisters\, and daughters. \nArt talk/lecture: Saturday\, June 8th\, 12-1:30 PM\nArtist reception: Thursday\, June 13th\, from 6-8 PM \n\n\n	Related

SUMMARY:PANEL DISCUSSION\, Photographer Sia Yazdanfar & Professor Ahmed Fadaam
DESCRIPTION:Sia Yazdanfar is a freelance photographer\, who was born and raised in Iran. Capturing some of the lesser-known parts of the Middle East\, Sia hopes to dispel preconceived ideas of life seldom shared with a western audience by sharing photographs and stories of a misunderstood side of our planet. \nAhmed Fadaam is an artist\, journalist\, and professor of communications at Elon\, born and raised in Iraq. He has led discussions inquiring on topics of arts importance as a form of expression\, about how art may serve as a mirror for society\, and how political\, economic\, and social changes can impact the work of artists. \nAhmed and Sia will discuss where their experiences overlap and where they diverge\, what preconceived notions about their cultures they have overcome\, their intentions with their art and more. Audience members will be given the opportunity to ask questions as well. \nEvent is free to attend but registration is required. \n\n\n	Related
