SUMMARY:Myth America - storytelling show for grownups by Milbre Burch
DESCRIPTION:What do an Irish immigrant\, an unhoused person\, an essential worker and a child in her unstudied wisdom have in common? Their humanity calls to our own. This free storytelling performance for adult audiences is a retrospective show for our times\, comprised of three original dramatic monologues written across Milbre Burch’s nearly-fifty-year career alongside family history and a personal story. Drawing on a “crazy quilt” of American experience\, Burch places several unexpected voices at center stage.  \nThis show on August 25th at 7 pm at the Olin T. Binkley Baptist Church\, 1712 Willow Drive in Chapel Hill\, will start with a presentation by Advance Placement High School English teacher Mary Wood\, who was censored by her school board in SC for teaching Ta-Nehisi Coates’ book Between the World and Me. the Washington Post picked up the story; the ACLU stepped in and Ta-Nehisi Coates came to sit with Wood at a school board meeting. During an intermission\, dessert will be served.  And a voter registration drive is embedded in the event. So bring along any of your neighbors who need to register to vote!  \nFollowing Burch’s performance\, freelance journalist and author Janine Latus will lead a community conversation with the two presenters and the audience to discuss the issues brought up that evening. \n\n\n	Related

SUMMARY:Free Choral and Music Workshop for Kids
DESCRIPTION:Our North Carolina Boys Choir and Girls Choir half-day camp and workshop is open to  public (all children in our community between 7 and 14 years of age). \nWhen: \nSaturday\, August 24\, 2019; 9 AM – 12 Noon (Free)\nSaturday\, September 28\, 2019; 9 AM – 12 Noon (Free)\nWhere: \n1712 Willow Dr.\, Chapel Hill NC 27514.  (Corner of 15-501 and Willow Dr. at Binkley Baptist Church).\nWe will conduct the August workshop at the Choir Room.  The September workshop will be held at our usual rehearsal space at the Fellowship Hall.\nThe camp requirements are simple: \nOpen to all Triangle area boys and girls (7-13 years old).\nNo prior singing experience is needed.\nLove of singing and a wish to learn classic vocal and performance techniques.\nAnd (importantly!) a desire to have fun with other boys and girls while learning great music!\nWhat: \nWe have professional vocal training\, music theory introduction and lots of fun activities planned for each day.\nSchedule for this Half-Day Camp and Workshop can be found by clicking here — Aug 24 Workshop Schedule. We listen to your kids’ voices in a fun\, low key camp environment among the group of their peers.  Children do not realize that in addition to having a good time at the camp\, they are being auditioned too.
