The ArtsCenter, in partnership with the Orange County Arts Commission, will host “Racial Equity and the Arts” November 10, 11, and 17, 2018. The workshop will feature a two-day immersive training by the Racial Equity Institute (REI) followed by a one-day discussion of arts equity and access within Orange County.
The workshop is being offered to cultural arts leaders within Orange County who wish to understand how and why racial inequities continue to plague our communities. Using talking points, historical facts, and an in-depth understanding of racism, REI will spend two days explaining our country’s history of systemic racial and ethnic disparities. On the third day, a facilitated discussion will allow participants to formulate first steps in addressing inequities in the programming and operations of their own organizations and arts communities.
Registration is $40 per person, which includes continental breakfast, lunch and snacks each day. In addition, all participants will receive a complimentary ticket to see jazz drummer Ralph Peterson at The ArtsCenter on November 9th; visit www.artscenter.live/RalphPeterson for more information. Individuals interested in participating may contact Dan Mayer, executive director of The ArtsCenter, at dmayer@artscenterlive.org.
This program is made possible with grant funding from the North Carolina Arts Council, a division of the Department of Natural and Cultural Resources, as well as the Triangle Community Foundation.
