The Orange County Arts Commission and the Hillsborough Arts Council will present Paint it Orange: Plein Air Paint-out and Wet Paint Sale in October. Plein air (open air) painters are invited to paint the landscapes and sites of Orange County, NC, for three days, October 25-27. The competition will culminate with an awards reception before the start of Last Fridays ArtWalk on Friday, October 27. The Wet Paint Sale will allow patrons the opportunity to purchase original works of art of notable Orange County locations, and just in time for the holidays. The paintings will remain on exhibit and for sale through the end of November.
The juror of the competition will be painter John Beerman, whose work has been exhibited nationally and internationally. Beerman attended the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture and earned a BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design. His has received numerous awards and fellowships including the Pollack-Krasner Foundation Award and the Yaddo Artist Colony Fellowship. His work is represented in many museums including The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York; the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston; and the Whitney Museum of American Art, New York. He has completed several public commissions including a mural in the Craftsteak restaurant at the MGM Grand, Las Vegas and recently an eighty-five foot mural in the I.M. Pei designed Milstein Family Heart Center, New York Presbyterian Hospital in New York City.
