SUMMARY:SMASH!
DESCRIPTION:What is SMASH! anyway? \nOnce upon a time\, the Triangle’s artists rarely had a chance to celebrate their work. While the area was a whirl of gallery openings\, live performances and open mic nights\, the artists didn’t have a chance to gather\, to connect\, to network. Our brave art superheroes Networking Girl\, Media Man and Terrific TEAL came together to create an annual event where artists could celebrate\, network and dream of the future. It is the Triangle’s Art Party Of The Year. If you are an artist or work in the arts\, you are invited. \n\n\n	Related

SUMMARY:SEEDS: Artist Management & Digital Marketing in a Streaming World
DESCRIPTION:Blair Clark\, CEO + Director of Marketing & Strategy at Brooklyn Basement Records\, manager of Ron Pope & Miko Marks  \nDo you even need a manager when streaming is king? How can you market to all the streaming platforms? Rissi and Blair talk about their experiences on both sides of the streaming issue. Listen to this if you want your music in everyone’s ears. \nBlair Clark took a circuitous route to her career in music. While maintaining a full-time position in advertising in New York\, she began managing Ron Pope on the side\, shaping his career as it began to take off. She slowly took on a larger\, more central role in Pope’s project – helping with everything from merchandising and website design to fan engagement initiatives and album production. Proving herself to be an invaluable asset\, Blair quit her job in advertising to manage Ron full-time in 2012 and added other acts to her roster shortly thereafter. Her current roster includes Ron Pope\, Miko Marks\, & Emily Scott Robinson. \nIn addition to her work as a manager\, Blair co-founded Brooklyn Basement Records in 2015. The label was built around a DIY mentality and strives to take the knowledge garnered via years of success in the indie music sphere and apply it to the careers of each artist BBR partners with. With the needs of today’s artists in mind\, BBR has begun to function as a marketing agency for a growing roster of artists that want to retain ownership of their masters\, but need the support of a team behind their release. In 2021 she was named to the board of Directors for Rainey Day Fund\, which supports historically excluded & underrepresented artists in the roots and Americana space. \n\n\n	Related

Confused about write-offs and deductions? \nArtist and tax preparer Janet Ecklebarger will answer questions about the IRS Schedule C\, the tax form that you need to understand as you prepare your taxes for 2021. \nDuring this workshop\, Janet will guide us through the process of identifying and accounting for the many diverse income streams (from contract day jobs to grants\, awards\, and sales) and business-related expenses that comprise the livelihoods of many arts practitioners. Tax legislation is always changing and Janet will address how those changes will affect the various situations for artists and other self-employed individuals. \nA practicing artist herself\, Janet has keen insights into the complexity inherent in filing taxes for creative careers. SUMMARY:Virtual Critique
DESCRIPTION:Join us and other area artists for our first virtual critique. \nAbout this Event\nAre you missing in-person critiques of your work during this time of social isolation? Even as some sectors of the economy open up\, most critique groups in our area are still paused. Regular critical examinations of your work are important for artistic growth and development. Being pushed and questioned on artistic choices is invaluable as you build your art career. \nThis first critique will be casual and peer-to-peer. We will be conducting it as a zoom meeting\, so you will be able to talk and see other participants. To join the critique\, you’ll need to submit 3-5 images of ONE work you want to discuss in advance. Why are we asking you to submit photos? With variances in web camera quality\, lighting and internet connections\, live video images rarely offer the level of detail needed to view art. Read our photo submission tips below. \nWho can join? This virtual critique is limited to visual craft artists. Artists at all career stages are welcome. If you have never participated in a critique\, this is a chance to get direct feedback on your work and to provide your feedback to others. You can expect fellow artists to comment on all aspects of your work\, including craftsmanship\, finish\, presentation\, media choice and themes. If you’re new to critiques\, be prepared that you might not like everything you hear – and that’s okay\, too. \nDirections to submit images are located on the digital links page after you register. (Free Eventbrite Account required) \n\n\n	Related
