SUMMARY:100 Pots. 100 Pounds. 300 Days.
DESCRIPTION:The 100 Pot Project was designed as a way to foster connection and creativity among students and studio members at Julie Berkowitz Ceramics. Participants shared a goal to craft 100 pots using 100 pounds of clay over 300 days from January to November\, 2025. Each pot was made with one pound or less of clay and participants were encouraged to try something new with every piece. Whether they focused on a single form or explored freely within the guidelines\, the challenge emphasized growth through experimentation.\nOpening reception: November 14th with The Artscenter in Carrboro from 6-8pm\, show running through the month of November \n\n\n	Related

SUMMARY:ARTIST RECEPTION & SPECIAL MUSICAL PERFORMANCE / OF QUICKSILVER AND DUST
DESCRIPTION:Dear Friends and Patrons\,\nJoin us this Friday evening for a celebration of live music and art at the Sweet Bay Gallery in the ArtsCenter. Crystal Bright will be performing selections of her original songs and standards during the artist reception for the ongoing exhibition\, OF QUICKSILVER AND DUST. \nCrystal’s music has been called “carnival folk\, fairy tale pop and gypsy jazz” and was described by the BBC as “a pleasant kind of bonkers.” Her singing has been expressed as captivating and mysterious\, featuring her mystical\, even otherworldly vocal inflections. A versatile musician and songwriter\, she creates a haunted\, whimsical\, multicultural sonic cabaret\, unique and beautifully orchestrated. \nOn display in the Sweet Bay Gallery is OF QUICKSILVER AND DUST\, a collection of photographs from journeys to various deserts and desert settlements in the heart of Iran. Expedition photographer Sia Yazdanfar spent August 2024 through March 2025 exploring the unforgiving landscapes and resilient people at these edges of the Middle East. This series of archival prints highlights the diverse spaces within these arid regions\, some a no man’s land of endless horizons\, and others punctuated by colorful bursts of life from desert dwellers\, both human and animal. \nFriday / May 16th\, 2025 / 6:00 pm – 8:30 pm\nArtsCenter / 400 Roberson St / Carrboro NC\nA selection of refreshments and artisanal Persian pastries will be provided. \nFor more information please email contact@siayazdanfar.com or check out the exhibition page for OF QUICKSILVER AND DUST at www.siayazdanfar.com \n\n\n	Related

DESCRIPTION:An exhibition of images captured in the latter half of 2021\, Accidental Traveller is the result of the latest photographic expeditions of Sia Yazdanfar. As he had done so in 2020\, Yazdanfar returned to his home country of Iran from the US\, navigating travel to multiple locations with the world in the grips of a pandemic. \nAfter a six-week run at Alamance Arts Sister Galleries\, the Accidental Traveller exhibition will debut at the Nicholson Gallery\, ArtsCenter on June 1st\, and run through June 25th. \nShot in the latter half of 2021\, this collection of photographs depicts the unique people and places of the subtropical southern fringes of Iran around Hormozgan Province. \n“Boasting some of the most colorful landscape & locals I have ever encountered\, Hormozgan Province borders the gulf where it meets the Strait of Hormuz\, the preeminent strategic chokepoint on Earth. I believe these voyages yielded some of the most kaleidoscopic & engaging photos I have had the privilege to shoot\, capturing some of the lesser known parts of the Middle East.” – Sia Yazdanfar \nReception and additional events will be announced throughout the exhibition:\nwww.artscenterlive.org\nwww.siayazdanfar.com \nGallery hours:\nMonday – Friday 9:00 am-9:00 pm\nSaturday – Sunday 10:00 am-5:00 pm \n\n\n	Related

SUMMARY:Haunted: An American Tale\, presented by Sonny Kelly
DESCRIPTION:What does a daddy say to his baby boy when the boogie man is real? Confronted by a surge in White supremacist activity and Confederate nostalgia in the nation that he calls home\, one father struggles to explain this wave of hatred and bigotry to his son. In HAUNTED\, actor and playwright\, Dr. Sonny Kelly takes on the voices of historians\, ancestors\, elders\, youths\, politicians\, pundits\, and poets\, as he traces the roots and routes of modern day anti-Black violence in America. Kelly recounts the roots of hatred and fear embedded in the story of the 1898 lynching of Manley McCauley in Orange County\, North Carolina. He also tracks the routes of racialized violence in America as manifested in the colonial justice system\, the Wilmington Massacre of 1898\, the 2015 shooting at the Emanuel AME Church in Charleston\, South Carolina\, and the 2020 lynching of Ahmaud Arberry in Brunswick\, Georgia. Kelly digs deep to examine the impact that racial violence has historically had on our minds\, bodies\, and souls in the land of the free and the home of the brave. \n\n\n	Related

SUMMARY:Live Stream: “The Immigrant” Live Score by Tim Carless
DESCRIPTION:On Saturday\, November 7th\, 2020\, Tim Carless presents The Immigrant\, the second film in his series of Charlie Chaplin live-scores streaming the first Saturday of October\, November and December. \nThe Immigrant\, made in 1917\, is the eleventh of twelve films that Charlie Chaplin made for the Mutual Film Company. It begins aboard a ship\, bound for America\, and upon arrival\, the passengers marvel at the sight of the Statue of Liberty. It features Edna Purviance and Eric Campbell\, both regulars in Chaplin films. This is the first time that Charlie’s character embarks upon a romantic relationship onscreen which in and of itself is remarkable. Although filmed during the silent-era\, Chaplin employed musicians on the set to play music to create moods as the scenes were shot. He later offered\, “The Immigrant touched me more than any other film I made. I thought the end had quite a poetic feeling.” The film made it into the National Film Registry in 1998. \nCarless will be performing on solo guitar live from his studio in Carrboro. The performance can be watched on The ArtsCenter’s YouTube Live: youtube.com/theartscenterlive/live \nWe hope you will join us for another outstanding free live-streamed event! \n\n\n	Related

SUMMARY:Help Save Halloween with Mister G
DESCRIPTION:Help Save Halloween with Mister G\nhttps://mistergsongs.com/halloween/\nTickets: https://laudable.productions/upcoming-events/ \nMister G and Laudable Productions invite children across the U.S. and Mexico to join us in saving Halloween with our border-busting\, world-wide costume party! Join the festivities at 4PM ET (1PM PT) or 7PM ET (4PM PT) on October 31st. Admission is FREE but tickets are limited and you must reserve your virtual seat in advance. Attendees will receive a free music download from MISTER G’s new album\, Children Of The World \, and an activity pack with illustrations to color and share during the show. \nHalloween activities have been cancelled in many communities\, but instead of feeling blue\, we’ve decided to throw the biggest costume party ever! Join Latin GRAMMY Winning musician/author\, MISTER G and the Global Citizen Ensemble for an international celebration\, broadcast live from the historic Academy of Music Theatre. Make a costume\, carve a pumpkin\, decorate your home\, and share your creativity on camera in this Zoom-style event where the performers can see and interact with families at home. \nAs part of the show\, we’ll travel to Mexico and learn about Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead)\, which takes place at the same time as Halloween\, but has its own rich cultural history. We’ll visit several families in the US and Mexico to learn how they honor their loved ones and explore the ways that they are celebrating this year. \nProduced in partnership with Laudable Productions\, the event will be broadcast live from the historic Academy of Music Theatre with professional sound\, lighting\, and film production. Participants join via video conference\, turning on their cameras so that they can “be seen” by the performers on a video wall at the front of the stage. During the show\, our directors weave footage of children and families into the broadcast\, giving the audience a glimpse of the singing\, dancing\, hand motions\, and joy that is taking place at home in real time (think Jumbotron at a sporting event). The interactivity spurs engagement and elevates the feeling of togetherness so that children and families can see each other across borders\, share their creativity\, and celebrate our shared global community. \nABOUT MISTER G\nBen Gundersheimer is a Latin GRAMMY Award-winning artist\, author\, activist and educator. Hailed as “a bilingual rock star” by the Washington Post\, he was originally dubbed MISTER G by his young students while pursuing a Masters of Education degree. His dynamic\, interactive bilingual performances aim to dissolve borders and foster cross-cultural connections. \nIn the music community\, Ben is known as a collaborator. He has a long history of recording and performing with notable musicians from a wide range of musical and cultural backgrounds. \nAs an author\, Ben has published two picture books with Penguin Random House based on his original\, bilingual songs. “Señorita Mariposa” chronicles the extraordinary migration of the monarch butterflies from Canada to Mexico\, while “Lilah Tov Good Night” is a lyrical lullaby which celebrates the beauty of our world and the spirit of resilience in a refugee family. \nABOUT LAUDABLE PRODUCTIONS\nLaudable Productions is a creative agency known for producing festivals and concerts. Laudable believes in making magic for artists and audiences\, taking the pandemic moment to pioneer the way we see digital events while prioritizing shared experience and interactivity. Laudable is committed to making world-class music and art accessible to everyone; firm believers in the power of the arts to enrich our lives and knit communities together. \n\n\n	Related

SUMMARY:Alash with special guest Shodekeh
DESCRIPTION:Alash are masters of Tuvan throat singing (xöömei)\, a remarkable technique for singing multiple pitches at the same time. What distinguishes this gifted trio from earlier generations of Tuvan throat singers is the subtle infusion of modern influences into their traditional music. One can find complex harmonies\, western instruments\, and contemporary song forms in Alash’s music\, but its overall sound and spirit remain decidedly Tuvan. For this\, their second performance at The ArtsCenter\, they are joined by Shodekeh\, a Baltimore-based beatboxer and vocal percussionist. \n\n\n	Related
