SUMMARY:Dual Exhibitions: No Friends but the Mountains / Restless Anahita
DESCRIPTION:Join us from July 10th thru August 5th for these dual exhibitions showcasing the photographic storytelling of Sia Yazdanfar. NO FRIENDS BUT THE MOUNTAINS & RESTLESS ANAHITA are continuing bodies of work\, each documenting aspects of traditional worlds in the Middle East. \nAfter the enthusiastic reception of the exhibitions at other venues\, we are thrilled to announce these dates at the ArtsCenter.\nThe collections of images will be on display in two galleries: Theater Gallery and the Sweet Bay Gallery. \nPer Sia Yazdanfar: \nNO FRIENDS BUT THE MOUNTAINS provides a glimpse into the daily lives of Kurdish people in the namesake mountainous Kurdistan Province\, where untamed landscapes are dotted by stepped villages\, home to a unique culture\, heritage\, & language that has been preserved for centuries. These images are the result of long-term photographic expeditions in 2023. \nRESTLESS ANAHITA is a kaleidoscopic journey through the fabric of female clothing in remote corners of Iran. The photographs are a variegated\, parti-colored passage through the rainbow of traditional garb in my motherland. Highlighting garments from the northwest mountains of Gilan\, to the sun-kissed islands of south-central Hormozgan\, these images pay homage to our mothers\, sisters\, and daughters. \nArtist reception: Friday\, July 12th\, from 6-8:30 PM\, featuring a special performance of Iranian & Sufi music by Sayeh Ensemble. \n\n\n	Related

SUMMARY:Restless Anahita
DESCRIPTION:My focus since first returning to my motherland in 2017 has been to bridge a gap between the two cultures that have formed me. With each new series of travels & photographic expeditions\, I seek out under-explored & less revealed people & places of Iran.\nAnnual odysseys to the Middle East continued throughout the pandemic\, travels navigated carefully as I crisscrossed the country from the Caspian Coast to the Persian Gulf. Looking through my catalog of over 200\,000 photos from these past six years\, I began focusing on the unique & colorful traditional garb of Iranian women in different localities. In a country where religious law\, tradition\, climate\, & function dictate clothing\, beauty oftentimes is expressed through garments\, as faces & hair are usually covered up. In the traditional Iranian view\, the ideal society was one in which women were confined to the home\, performing the various domestic tasks associated with managing a household & rearing children. Men worked in the public sphere\, that is\, in the fields\, factories\, bazaars\, & offices. While that is no longer the present state of affairs\, outside of urban centers & particularly in rural areas\, the tradition of wearing hand-sewn\, bright colored & bejeweled dress remains\, woven into the fabric of different ethnicities & tribes.\nThis exhibition will highlight just that\, a variegated\, parti-colored passage through the rainbow of traditional cloth. Selections of worn fabrics & patterns from various provinces will be spotlighted\, with people photographed both in their daily lives as well as non-traditional settings. The images for the exhibition will draw from never before seen selections of my previous work\, as well as what an extended recent trek to the region\, from September 2022 thru February 2023\, yielded. \n\n\n	Related

SUMMARY:Accidental Traveller
DESCRIPTION:An exhibition of images captured in the latter half of 2021\, Accidental Traveller is the result of the latest photographic expeditions of Sia Yazdanfar. As he had done so in 2020\, Yazdanfar returned to his home country of Iran from the US\, navigating travel to multiple locations with the world in the grips of a pandemic. \nAfter a six-week run at Alamance Arts Sister Galleries\, the Accidental Traveller exhibition will debut at the Nicholson Gallery\, ArtsCenter on June 1st\, and run through June 25th. \nShot in the latter half of 2021\, this collection of photographs depicts the unique people and places of the subtropical southern fringes of Iran around Hormozgan Province. \n“Boasting some of the most colorful landscape & locals I have ever encountered\, Hormozgan Province borders the gulf where it meets the Strait of Hormuz\, the preeminent strategic chokepoint on Earth. I believe these voyages yielded some of the most kaleidoscopic & engaging photos I have had the privilege to shoot\, capturing some of the lesser known parts of the Middle East.” – Sia Yazdanfar \nReception and additional events will be announced throughout the exhibition:\nwww.artscenterlive.org\nwww.siayazdanfar.com \nGallery hours:\nMonday – Friday 9:00 am-9:00 pm\nSaturday – Sunday 10:00 am-5:00 pm \n\n\n	Related
