To create the work in this exhibit\, the artists of The Durham Palette used wild\, local pigments from plants\, soil\, and fungi to explore their relationships with the environment. SUMMARY:Opening Reception: Grounded & Growing: Tales of Our Lives through Wild Pigments
DESCRIPTION:Join the North Carolina Botanical Garden for the opening reception of Grounded and Growing: Tales of Our Lives through Wild Pigments\, a new exhibit by The Durham Palette. \nSunday\, November 12\n5-8 p.m.\nLight refreshments provided \nThe Durham Palette is a growing collective of artists that contextualize locally sourced pigments within a Queer\, decolonial\, ecological framework. By doing so they seek to not only connect with ancestral art practices but also to deepen their understanding of how ongoing cultural events\, including marronage\, gentrification\, and climate change\, have materialized into the Earth’s ecology and can be harvested as color. \nThe places they gather from include changing neighborhoods\, graveyards\, landfills\, riverbeds\, plantations\, family homes\, and Black-owned land\, among others. These foraging practices are slow\, rooted in cycles and seasons\, and they align with the collective’s commitments to center sustainability over capitalist lures of constant consumption and production. The Durham Palette believes that the Earth is an ally\, and it is offering us sustainable and abundant tools to create propaganda for our much needed collective liberation in this time of climate collapse. \n\n\n	Related

SUMMARY:Sculpture in the Garden
DESCRIPTION:Sculpture in the Garden is a free\, annual outdoor sculpture show that unites the work of North Carolina artists with the curated landscapes of the North Carolina Botanical Garden. Now in its 31st year\, this show invites visitors to experience sculpture\, the natural world\, and the relationship between the two in a new way. We encourage you to visit several times over the course of the exhibit; the garden around the sculptures is always changing! \nThis year\, Sculpture in the Garden runs from Sunday\, September 15 through Sunday\, December 8. Admission to the show\, and to the Garden itself\, is free and open to the public during normal Garden hours (9 a.m.-5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday\, 1-5 p.m. Sunday). \nSculpture in the Garden is geared toward all ages and will be enjoyed by the casual observer as well as the serious art collector. Most pieces are available for purchase\, although no pieces will be removed before the end of the show. A Preview Party on Saturday\, September 14 gives attendees a chance to meet the artists and have first dibs at purchasing sculptures. Voting for the People’s Choice Award will be open to the public until November 15. \n\n\n	Related
