SUMMARY:Painted Layers Postcards\, a mixed media art workshop with Sarah Gardner
DESCRIPTION:Painted Layers Postcards” is a project from Sarah’s book: “Share Your Joy: Mixed Media Shareable Art.” Working in layers\, using several different media and techniques you’ll create a set of four\, one-of-a-kind\, mixed media postcards. \nThe simple layering process makes creating playful\, intuitive\, and fun\, and the results are interesting\, colorful\, and often surprising! \nWe will create on an 8.5 x 11 inch substrate that is then cut into postcard-sized pieces. It’s kind of magical what can happen when you cut that larger piece apart! Beautiful\, unintentional compositions; little hints of a particular color; a splatter off-center in the corner that catches your eye; part of something bigger that is now on another card that has you guessing what it might have been…mysteries and wonder. It’s sure to spark joy! \nThen\, you can share that joy by mailing your cards away and making someone else’s day! SUMMARY:Calligraphy for Beginners with Maria Oglesby
DESCRIPTION:In this 2 hour workshop students will learn the basics of the calligraphy alphabet\, how to connect various letters\, and how to add embellishments and flourishes to their work. We will go over the basics of how to use and treat common calligraphy tools such as brush pens\, pen nibs\, and how to stir and mix their own gouache and watercolor for calligraphy use. \nStudents will leave the workshop with their own completed calligraphy alphabet\, and a set of basic calligraphy tools to continue their practice of the art form. \nThis workshop is perfect for artists who are interested in doing their own wedding calligraphy\, invitation envelopes\, or similar work. DESCRIPTION:Featuring artwork by Naomi Dyreng and Wyatt Blevins. \nFrom Naomi Dyreng:  My intention with my art is to capture the tiny\, forgettable moments that get lost in the clutter of life. These moments hint at deeper stories. As I’ve grown\, my art has expanded to convey these moments in a more fluid\, abstract manner. Through my art\, I am able to take a step back from life’s chaos to appreciate the colorful\, simple beauty of everyday living.  \nFrom Wyatt Blevins:\nMemories have always intrigued me\, how much we are formed by these snippets of reality that we have chosen to protect from the flow of time. My work is an exploration of some of these memories\, especially how these memories are intertwined with my emotions. SUMMARY:Anything Goes Art Meet Up\, Drop in Art Session
DESCRIPTION:Please join us for this relaxed drop in session for artists and dabblers — no instruction\, but lots and lots of supplies for you to use as you choose. We have everything from a range of substrates and papers (including specialty and handmade papers) and adhesives\, to paints and paint markers\, washi tapes\, rubber stamps and inks\, a die cutter with dies and embossing folders\, and different ephemera.  You can also bring and use supplies of your own. \nYou can come for some or all of the time. It is “pay as you please” with $15 as a middling guideline suggestion — we recognize everyone’s usage is different. You can pay by cash or check made out to “Margaret Lane Gallery” — we will also have a QR code for accessing a paylink if you prefer to pay by card. \nPre-registration is not required\, but it helps us plan.
