SUMMARY:Myth America - storytelling show for grownups by Milbre Burch
DESCRIPTION:What do an Irish immigrant\, an unhoused person\, an essential worker and a child in her unstudied wisdom have in common? Their humanity calls to our own. \nThis free storytelling performance for adult audiences is a retrospective show for our times\, comprised of three original dramatic monologues written across Milbre Burch’s nearly-fifty-year career alongside family history and a personal story. Drawing on a “crazy quilt” of American experience\, Burch places several unexpected voices at center stage. \nThis show on Wednesday\, October 9th\, 2024 at 6:30 pm at the Chapel Hill Public Library\, 100 Library Drive in Chapel Hill\, will include a voter registration drive assisted by Orange Durham Chatham County Branch of the League of Women Voters. So bring your family\, friends and first-time voting teenagers who still need to register to this event. \nFollowing Burch’s performance\, Dr. Sonny Kelly\, storyteller and speaker extraordinaire\, will lead a community conversation with the artist and the audience. \n\n\n	Related

SUMMARY:Deadline: Banned Books Art
DESCRIPTION:This is a call for local artists! \nChapel Hill Public Library\, in partnership with Chapel Hill Community Arts & Culture\, is asking you to make small (5” wide x 7” tall) original works of art on paper\, inspired by books or authors that have been challenged\, censored\, or banned. \nBased on their artistic excellence\, seven of these works will be selected by a jury to receive a $100 prize and become trading cards; artwork is featured on the front and an artist’s statement and information about the book or author are on the back. All entries are displayed in an exhibit at the library during Banned Books Week and beyond. Trading cards are distributed for free during Banned Books Week and beyond. \nBanned Books Week is an annual national event celebrating the freedom to read and the importance of intellectual freedom. Held during the last week of September\, it highlights the benefits of free and open access to information while drawing attention to the dangers of censorship by spotlighting actual and attempted banning of books. we coordinate this project to bring these important issues into the community’s conversation in a fun\, interesting\, and unique way. \nThe deadline to submit art is Monday\, August 26\, so get started soon! \nLearn more on the library website: chapelhillpubliclibrary.org/banned-books \n\n\n	Related
