SUMMARY:House Tour & Scottish Exhibit
DESCRIPTION:Ayr Mount is a house museum offering guided tours that delve into family history\, the enslaved community\, plantation life\, fine architecture\, and museum quality furniture and decorative arts. On special view is a Scottish Connections Exhibit featuring Scottish artifacts\, 18th and 19th century engravings of Scotland\, immigration patterns\, food\, curiosities and a wee bit of fun facts. Of special interest is a ca.1930 Buchanan Child’s Dancer Ensemble on loan from the Scottish Tartans Museum and Heritage Center\, Inc. in Franklin\, NC. This sublime ensemble is in pristine condition and includes sporrans\, jewelry\, hose\, doublet\, waistcoat and other original pieces.  This special exhibit can be viewed September 18 through October 20th during a regularly scheduled Guided House Tour.\n \nDuring the Outlandish Festival (Ceilidh Ayr and Outlander Ayr) it can be seen by advance purchase only. You must also have tickets to Ceilidh Ayr or Outlander Ayr to take the house tour during the festival\, please purchase the house tour for the day that you will be attending the festival.\n \nThis event is a part of Outlandish Hillsborough which encompasses a 2-day festival of Scottish history\, the colonial history of North Carolina with ties to the Outlander series\, music\, food\, Marketplace vendors – plus a whole lot of fun! DESCRIPTION:Outlander Ayr will Cèilidh On while adding fun layers from the Outlander series when the main characters lived in colonial North Carolina. Step through the Stones to experience colonial food and lifestyle demonstrations\, British and Highland regiment reenactors\, readings\, dancing and much more. Come in costume of your favorite character – or not – but come join in the fun.\nThe first 500 Tickets sold online for this event will include Free Parking on-site (at Ayr Mount). Your ticket will say “Adult with Free Parking.” Please come to Ayr Mount and follow signs to park.\nIf you purchase your ticket after 500 tickets have been sold\, your ticket will say “Adult with Free Shuttle Service\,” you will need to park in downtown Hillsborough (Parking options can be found HERE) and take the free shuttle buses to the event site.\nThe Shuttle for Outlandish Hillsborough will depart from the Visitors Center\, located at 150 E. King Street\, and continuously loop to Ayr Mount from 10am-4:15pm.
